California Bicycle Racing Pro race Carson, CA. The pace was hot from the gun for the 90 minute pro criterium. The course offered a slight hill on each .7 mile lap. The field was strung out at just under 30 miles per hour. The pace let up as the riders on the front cat and moused each other looking around. I managed to slip away and get up the road solo. 2 other strong riders bridged up to me after a few miles and then we were three strong. We rolled the breakaway taking turns pulling through but the sprinter wanted a free ride and refused to do any work. The field eventually caught us and we were reabsorbed. After a few more breakaway attempts a selection with 7 riders was made and then stuck it to the line. I managed to hijack a lead out train and take the group sprint constellation prize. Lesson, if you get in every breakaway, you will eventually get in the winning breakaway. Easier said than done right? All in all a great afternoon on bikes at 30mph. A day under sunshine and out of a hospital bed is good by me.
