5 Loaves & 2 Fish - Photo by Review & Herald Publishing
God’s Word Today:
Mark 6:41-42 NCV
Jesus took the five loaves and two fish and, looking up to heaven, he thanked God for the food. He divided the bread and gave it to his followers for them to give to the people. Then he divided the two fish among them all. All the people ate and were satisfied.
Thoughts to Ponder:
Many times we look at our resources and find it too little to sustain us through the coming days and the months.
During those times we start to wonder, how can we survive?
What more can we do to make ends meet?
How can we be assured of a better future?
These questions become burdensome especially in our world of ever-increasing expenses and high-priced basic commodities.
Our text tells us about the 5 loaves and 2 fish which seemed too little to feed thousands of hungry people. It turns out it was enough, actually more than enough!
Here are points to learn from that we should focus on:
- The disciples could have just kept this meager meal for themselves, but they didn’t. They shared it.
- They knew that this is all they had. It’s limited, so they gave it all to Jesus.
- Jesus multiplied it for everyone to have a share.
To us, what we have may not be enough or too limited for ourselves and to share with others.
But through this wonderful story of faith, sharing and placing all in God’s power we’re assured that the resources apportioned to us everyday is more than enough for us and others.
As a song says, “because little becomes much as you place it in the Master’s hand.”
Dear Father,
We give thanks for the properly apportioned blessings You give in each day.
Help us to have faith that You’re able to sustain us even as we share these.
In turn, we’ll not focus on our meager resources but focus on You – the one who gives and can multiply these exponentially!
In Jesus Name, Amen.
