WHAT IS MIRRORING?

in inspirationalquote •  7 years ago

Some women and men spend countless hours in front of the mirror. Sometimes people spend hours admiring what reflects back at them and sometimes they lament what they see. Brushes, makeup, hair products, and that perfect outfit combine to portray the best possible look for you. This is not mirroring. Mirroring is something you do more for the other than for yourself and you need to know how to do it in orde to succeed.
Mirroring has nothing to do with the reflective glass on your wall. It has more to do with your observation skills. Mirroring keeps you plugged into the conversation. It is an action, which means you have to act. Mirroring is watching the person you are talking to and mimicking what he or she does. This does not mean that you repeat exactly what the other person says until he gets irritated at you.
People like to connect with people who are like themselves. There is something challenging about connecting with someone different from you. The bigger the difference between the two of you the greater the challenge.
Examples of mirroring are:

1)VOLUME - When you are talking to someone notice his or her speaking volume. If he or she is soft spoken person, speak gently. If you talk too loud, he or she may get overwhelmed. If the person is loud talker, speak up a bit. Matching what a person does can help him or her open up and fell more comfortable with you.

2)BODY LANGUAGE- for example if he or she lean forward, you should lean in a bit as well because if he ir she is trying to tell you something your leaning shows him you are interested.

Advice: Take time to observe people and the difference in the way they interact with one another.
