Vinyl Records - David Bowie

in inspiredby •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hubby went shopping with me last month and purchased this Rolling Stone magazine with David Bowie on the front.

I hadn’t thought about all those vinyl records Hubs has stored in the basement until I saw Bowie’s picture.

Hubs has a few cartoons of the old vinyl records kept from his bachelor days.

Here’s some of Hubby’s Bowie album covers, taken two years ago with my old Kodak Z700 digital camera.

Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars was released in 1972.

One of my favourite Album Covers is this one from Aladdin Sane (1973). Album consists of songs he wrote while going back and forth to the U.S. with the Ziggy Stardust tour.

For the tour he dyed his hair auburn, painted his face and wore fabulous costumes. His outrageous antics in his Ziggy Stardust persona appealed to both sexes.

A few personal facts about popular artist, singer and songwriter, David Bowie:

  • David, born Jan. 8, 1947 in South London, changed his birth family name from Jones to Bowie because there was another well-known Davey Jones of The Monkees of whom he was often mistaken.

  • The Bowie last name was taken from the American Alamo hero, James Bowie, who’s family is connected with inventing the Bowie hunting knife.

  • David had two children, Alexandria and Duncan, with first wife Angie.

  • In 1992, 12 yrs. after their divorce he married supermodel Iman.

  • David Bowie died of liver cancer Jan 10, 2016. By Buddhist rituals, his ashes were scattered over Bali, Indonesia.

Hubby often hints about getting a turntable to play the vinyls again...maybe Mrs. Santa will get him one next Christmas.

Loved some of his stuff. So original. Gone much too early. Thanks for sharing @redheadpei

Welcome @robertandrew. Yes, he was quite a pacesetter at the time. Definitely gone too soon.

Cool albums I think I used to have all of those 😎

Hubby keeps hanging on to his albums. I hear vinyl is making a comeback. 😃

💖 Bowie! I'll have Ziggy Stardust in my head now. :)

Haha @katrina-Ariel.
Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly,
And the spiders from Mars. He played it left hand
But made it too far
Became the special man, then we were Ziggy's band
Now Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from Japan, he could lick 'em by smiling
He could leave 'em to hang
'Came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan.

I've not seen a vinyl in ages and did not know David Bowie had changed his last name. I used to still have a few records but I've no clue where they would be now.

Thanks Deb. Vinyl seems to be making a comeback. I don’t have any of my vinyl left but Hubby hung on to most of his collection.

This brings back a lot of memories! I sold and gave away almost all my vinyl but also think about getting a turntable for the few me and hubby still have. Just something about spinning the vinyl that makes ya' feel good!! Terrific post Jo!!

Those were the days Dee-dancing around the living room to some of the great dancing tunes on the vinyl. There seemed to be more house parties then. Always someone’s husband /wife got sloshed at those parties and fed the neighbourhood rumour mill. 😳.

Lol.. ahh yes..great memories!! The days before internet when people actually socialized and enjoyed each others company! Great times!!

I think he was in a movie...Labrynth? That's all I know about him. Does he have two different colored eyes? It looks that way in the magazine pic. Probably was an interesting dude. :) Thanks for sharing the interesting album covers. I think you can get pretty cheap record players these days and even ones that convert from record to CD on the machine. I've seen them at Costco before. Check craigslist too!!

Thanks @apanamamama, I’ll have to check out the record players.
Bowie’s 👁 - Not two different colors but caused by unequal size of the pupils called anisocoria. Bowie’s left pupil was permanently dilated. This can create the illusion of having different coloured eyes because the fixed pupil does not respond to changes in light, while the right pupil does. Bowie’s left eye appeared to be darker than the blue of the right one because of this.

Wow, that is really interesting. Thanks for letting me know. I had no idea!
