Refried Beans in the Instant Pot

If you are looking for a quick and easy way to create refried beans, get yourself an Instant Pot. You will not regret it.

I make homemade dog food and one of the main ingredients is homemade beans. For years I was making them in the crockpot which would take about 12-16 hours to cook. They cook faster and you have a much better result in the Instant Pot.

I buy the beans 50 lbs at a time at Sams Club. This is the cheapest I have found. I have 5 dogs that eat homemade food. The 50 lb bag lasts roughly 6 weeks.

The times may vary depending on your Instant Pot Size, I have the 8 quart one.

  1. I start off with 6 cups of dry beans, add them to the Instant Pot with enough water to reach the max fill line. Let this sit for at least 6 hours.

  2. Make sure there is still some water in the pot, you shouldn't need to add any more.

  3. Make sure your Instant Pot's Pressure Valve is pointed to "Sealing" .

  1. Select the "Beans" option and you are done. ( You may need to adjust the time, I have mine set at 45 minutes)

  2. You will hear it beep once it is done. Just click on "Cancel" and let it slowly depressurize. You can speed it up by manually depressurizing it by moving the value to venting.

  3. You will want to use a blender of some sort. I use a Ninja Blender, you can also use an immersion blender.

  4. I then store it in pint size mason jars and store in the fridge. They can last about a week in the fridge.

This is the recipe for making it for dogs. The process is the same as making it for your family except you will want to add your own spices.
