Paul writes his first epistle to the Church of Thessalonica, this letter is one of the first written texts of the New Testament, and in it the apostle Paul expresses his gratitude to this community, a church that despite the difficulties that its foundation had, this union of believers in Jesus had become an example of the spread of the christian faith in Greece and Macedonia: "We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ" 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3.
Paul places the Christians of this community as an example of life, love is not enough, something else is needed, and that something else is the spiritual gift of fear of God. Let us remember that the Kingdom of Heaven is expansive, progressive, as explained in the parable of the leaven (Luke 13:20-21), or in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30). And these qualities of the Kingdom of Heaven need the fear of God to bear fruit. The fear of the Lord is constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability.
Please the Lord, tells to us the apostle, discover his will he adds, increase the spiritual gifts inherit from God, through love, constancy and endurance, this is the commitment of those who agree to enter to the Kingdom of Heaven, and this is what he explains in the epistle: "As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus" 1 Thessalonians 4:1-2.
