Setting up a trainer kite to practice kite flying

in instruction •  7 years ago

There is only one knot that you will need to know when attaching the kite lines to a kite.
It is called the larks head knot.
This is the standard knot used to attach kite lines and is seen with leading edge inflatable kites used in kiteboarding, trainer kites, foil kites, and also stunt kites.

HOW TO TIE A LARKS HEAD KNOT

At the end of one line you will find a loop.

At the end of the line for attachment you will find a knot.

Lets start with the loop

Push the solid part through the loop,... like so

Now the loop can be cinched down over top of the knot creating the larks head.

To cinch the loop over top of the knot,...
First thread the knot through the hole created by the loop

then cinch the loop down above the knot

Make sure you pull on the lines testing the knot to be sure it is secure. It is important to test the knot before launching the kite into the air.

Every kite brand is different. Some brands have the larks head loop on the kite end, some have them on the line end. It does not matter which end it is on, because they all operate the same. We will cover how to tune your kite in a later article. This is where you actually select a different knot according to the wind-speed.
