What appears to be the first store listing for the unannounced Intel Core i9-9900K 8 Core / 16 Thread CPU has surfaced via Amazon. Intel’s upcoming flagship is an 8-core behemoth that looks to be coming in some very snazzy new packaging.
Bog-standard cubes are old hat you see, so the Core i9-9900K comes tucked up inside a natty looking dodecahedron, lending a more premium feel as Intel attempts to do battle with AMD’s Threadripper series.
Moving on to the real meat of this story though, and that’s pricing. The Intel Core i9-9900K is currently pegged at $582.50 (£370) in the Amazon listing, which is a fair whack above the expected $450 price point. Nothing has been confirmed at this stage, although the current price could be a placeholder until Intel settles on a final figure.
While the Core i9-9900K will undoubtedly be a monster of a CPU, the $582 price point wouldn’t be particularly competitive against the $548 Ryzen Threadripper 1920X 12-Core and the $320 AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X. That latter one, in particular, is looking like a bargain these days.
Setting aside the price, the Intel Core i9-9900K is anticipated to be an extremely high-end processor. It’s once again being manufactured on a further refinement of the 14nm process, dubbed 14nm++, and features 8C/16T. It comes with a base clock speed of 3.6GHz and a boost clock speed of 5.0GHz across two cores. All eight cores can be overclocked to 4.7GHz simultaneously right out of the box. The Core i9-9900K utilises a 16MB cache and has a 95W TDP.
Unfortunately, the Amazon listing doesn’t feature a release date, although we’re expecting Intel’s 9th Gen CPUs to debut at some point this month.
