The postman, from the Japanese coastal city of Susami, Toshihiko Matsumoto, proposed placing a postbox under water when the city was looking for ideas to boost tourism. Those willing to dive, can put on a neoprene suit and send letters from 9 meters deep.

Since then every day Hiroaki Yamatani, the owner of the dive shop, descends to the underwater mailbox to collect the letters or rather, the waterproof postcards written in indelible ink and take them to the "dry" post office, on the surface and from there they travel to their destination.

Apparently the idea has been a success: since its entry into services have been sent almost 38,000 letters from 9 meters deep, from the only mailbox in the world that has been installed under the sea.
