Keemstar falsely accuses 62 year old Streamer and ruins his day, social platforms come together and rescue the situation

in internet-story •  8 years ago

Not many here on Steemit have maybe heard about this story, that's why I wanted to share it as it properly portrays how evil the internet can be under circumstances, but also how quickly it can turn around and bring optimism and justice where it is deserved.

As you might know Keemstar from Drama-alert and other drama that followed, this was one of the things he did that made me absolutely lose all respect for him.

He has a lot of followers and once he thought he had done some major detective work on this one inmate that also used to play Runescape and was in prison for having relations with a Teenager, he had all his fans go over to another 62 year old streamer that was playing Runescape to raid, spam, threaten and just be assholes to a streamer who had done nothing wrong.

Even though I would've wanted to share the story myself and write it all down, I think I wouldn't do it much justice with my english and writing skills, so I'd rather post a video of Youtube user Scarce who made a reddit thread about the incident and helped turn it around. He explains it much better than I could in his video:

Oh man, even watching that video again now after so long, it still brought chills down my spine and just made me sad in general... People can be so nasty if they are on their Justice Warrior horses thinking they are doing the right thing.

Thankfully after people started watching Scarce's video (and I'm sure he helped out a lot in general with this situation) the next day they raided his twitch channel again but this time he was crying tears of joy instead of sadness. If you got really down from the last video, this one will make up for it!

This is one of my favorite internet stories and the reason why I wanted to share it with you all.

I have been on vacation the last 2 weeks, coming back and seeing all drama that is unfolding here on Steemit, it kinda makes me a little sad as well. I know much of this attitude and negativity come organically from a sinking price of the asset, but for all others who just want to troll and bring dirt to users or projects who don't deserve it. I just want to say that the good will concur in the end, and all drama that is unfolding will be nothing but a slight memory in most users minds.

wow, the emotions! Upvoted, thanks for a GREAT SHARE! I needed this.

Why did this get flagged?

Thank you! No idea what twitch is, but you have to bring them here!

Haha funny you mention this! Twitch is a site for streamers, usually gamers that play CS:GO or LOL or WOW, etc. But lately it also has this "creative" section where people make art and stream doing it.

When I ran into a really good artist who didn't have much viewers I made him an offer to draw a painting for me and this was the result.
After helping him out to get started, he went ahead and read more about Steemit and on his own initiative powered up all SD he had earned and continued posting! It really shows how powerful and successful steemit will become in the future and I'm glad for the people that take the time to fully understand it and start using it. Here is his channel in case you are interested. :)

Getting even more excited everyday :)

I'm getting tired of all the negativity, too. Thanks for an inspiring post. :)

You're welcome! :)

You can never have too many inspiring posts nowadays :)

Thankfully the truth prevails. The good triumphs over evil. You are right, social media can be used for good and evil. My experience at steemit has been wonderful so far. Steemit is the model for the social media of the future

Wow, man. You forget how bad people can act on the Internet when you start spending all of your time here. If someone tried this here, what would happen? They would get flagged, people would see that user's rep drop, they'd look into it, and then unfollow and mute him for doing this to an innocent man.

Tony seems like a great guy, and this is the reason we have to grow Steem outwards so that our reputations, that we are invested in, go with us everywhere we go on the Internet. It'd be virtually impossible for this sort of behavior to be sustainable in that model. I know it's possible and it's why the petty things some on here complain about are even more ridiculous.

Thanks for sharing this and let's keep looking out for one another here so that this never happens on Steemit.
