In Japan, the date of commercial launch of services based on mobile 5G networks was determined. This happened after the Swedish company Ericsson and the leading Japanese mobile operator KDDI entered into a partnership agreement on joint testing of the fifth-generation networks at 4.5 GHz in several cities in Japan.
During the pilot project, partners will test different scenarios for using 5G in the 4.5 GHz and 28 GHz frequency bands, and explore the interaction between the 5G and LTE technologies. The pilot project will be completed by March 2018, and commercial 5G services for its KDDI subscribers are planned to be launched by 2020.
