If you are a parent and have ever been frustrated by the lack of ability to control your kids access to the internet, then I have an idea for you. I have 3 kids and like most kids these days they are very internet savvy. It was a struggle to keep them off the internet when I was not there, did not want them on or at work. I work nights so they had the ability to access the internet when I was not there and were supposed to be sleeping. There are the usual parental safeguards you can access through Windows or your individual router program but I found them to be complicated to use and more of a pain in the butt than I wanted to deal with. Trying to set up restrictions to individual tablets, smart phones and various types of computers was like solving a Chinese finger puzzle. To be honest, it was a frustration I did not want to have to deal with. Call me lazy or a non techie, but I simple do not have the computer expertise to delve into all the requirements to do what I wanted to do.
After searching the internet for some sort of internet access program or website that would fit my needs, I stumbled upon this company called. WEBCURFEW. I would like to state that I am not a paid promoter of this company in any way. However, I do feel I can share good things when I find them. After looking into this company I found that it offered just what I was looking for. I was able to select times that a specific device which was linked to my router to turn on and off. I was able to set parental controls and EVEN BEST I was able to access the timers and control REMOTELY! Yes, you heard that, I was able to toggle ANY device linked to my router on and off for internet access. I was able to toggle devices from work or anywhere away from my home as well. If one of my kids friends came over, then I was able to see any and all devices connected to my router at any time. There is a free version and a paid/subscription version of control abilities. The free version was somewhat limited in control abilities but the paid version was a fairly nominal fee and was worth every cent. I was concerned about the security of my router/internet but after consulting with the support staff, which is fantastic I might add, I felt assured that security and safety was a paramount concern of theirs and all security measures were in place to prevent unwanted access to my router/internet.
This ability was a godsend for me. I was able preset weekday, weekend and holiday timers to toggle internet access on/off. If I needed to change a timer or access of any individual or multiple devices from anywhere I had that ability as well. Anytime I wanted to make adjustments to my kids access to the router/internet, then all I had to do was access the Webcurfew website from my smartphone, login and change a timer or device access. It took me all of a couple minutes to make the required changes.
I am sure some tech savvy readers will think of other questions or concerns, but I suggest you contact the Webcurfew support staff with any questions you may have. I used the service for over 4 years and never once had an issue with security or accessibility. After a couple years of not having a subscription I have now found myself needing this incredible service again. This need is what prompted me to write this post. Search the internet for Webcurfew or use the link I attached below. I have seen other people attach links to various site in their posts, so I figured it was within the TOS agreement (Terms of Service) of Seemit to attach a link.
If one parent finds this service as helpful as I did, then I feel I offered a decent "pass it forward" idea. If you have ever been frustrated by your lack of control with your kids internet access, then I suggest you look into this service. It has been liberating for me and to be honest, gave me the power to be the responsible parent I know I needed to be and gain control over my sneaky and tech savvy little trolls.
Peace :D
