[Interview] Dan Larimer - A Prescient Retrospective - Part 3 of 3

in interview •  7 years ago

On April 3rd, 2015, Cryptofresh Pictures had the chance to interview Dan Larimer at the Bitshares headquarters in Blacksburg, Virginia.

While some of the footage from that interview was included in the original Bitshares Peer To Peer Tour Video, the rest has not been seen, until now.

If you missed it, you can see Part 1 of this interview here:

[Interview] Dan Larimer - A Prescient Retrospective - Part 1 of 3

...and Part 2 here:

[Interview] Dan Larimer - A Prescient Retrospective - Part 2 of 3

In a wide-ranging and forward-thinking interview, Dan Larimer gives us some insight into his personal philosophy, as well as his perspectives on the many issues, possibilities, and opportunities confronting those within the cryptocurrency space, and the whole of society.

In Part 3 - We ask @dantheman these questions:

  • Under what scenario do you see blockchain technology going mainstream?
  • What other types of DAC's (Decentralized Autonomous Companies) do you feel are important, beyond the decentralized exchange?
  • What are your thoughts on AI, Singularity, Skynet DAC?

To many on Steemit, @dan, or @dantheman, needs no introduction.

Dan Larimer is the co-founder, and lead developer of several second generation cryptocurrencies including Bitshares, Steem, and is currently leading the development of the EOS blockchain as CTO of BlockOne.

Commentary:

This concludes the long awaited, almost lost to time, interview with Dan Larimer.

I hope you all have enjoyed this glimpse into the mind of Dan; the motivations, and insights he was able to share with us over two years ago. I hope to bring you all a more current interview with Dan, and other innovators in the cryptocurrency space soon!

Thanks for supporting my work. When this was filmed, Steem was but a dream, unknown to me. Who would have thought at that time we would be able to post this interview here and be rewarded for all the time and effort expended to capture this interview. For those of you who haven't seen it... while it is somewhat dated, here's a link to the mini-documentary known as the Bitshares Peer To Peer Tour, which might help explain how this all came about.

I will sign off with my favorite quote from this last segment:

"...So, I don't believe technology will be conscious, but I believe that technology will enable humans to combine to create one global coordinated movement, and that's what this is all about is coordinated efforts that are peaceful, and when we do that, society will never be the same." - Dan Larimer

Best wishes,
and Steem On!

Wow, that was the greatest documentary ever. Thanks for sharing.

haha.. well... greatest, idk, but I'm glad you appreciated it! Cheers!

That cordinated effort that we are all here for I agree will be the thing that changes our world like never before. This decentralized control but unifing thought that we are all investing in will supercede government and create a world that I'm excited to see. Thanks for taking the time to produce content over for the last year.

This quote is quite intriguing to me :
"...as that evolves, it's very much like a global brain, a global consciousness, that's responding to inputs from human sensors all over the world..."

Thanks @lovejoy for part 3

This guy is a genius. I see the future and I'm here doing my best collaborating and learning from the community to be a part of it. Bitshares and Steemit, two great ideas and networks... Waiting for the market to detach one crypto from another and recognize value.

nice interview

The fact that this interview is two years old, yet still applies to today and isn't "outdated," is a huge testament to Dan's clarity of thinking and how he is right on the money with his philosophy.

I hear a lot about Dan, but never got the chance to really dig into his own words before this. Thanks a lot for sharing these, I'm glad they were not lost to the sands of time :-)

Thank you for providing these video interviews. Dan's sentiments are very much in tune with the dawn of a new era, though humanity simultaneously also faces possibility of catastrophe. It's up to us. But I do think that Steemit is the most important leap in 1,000 years! If we can rein in our wastrel selves, that is. It's up to us. I am grateful for all the "volunteer" efforts driving blockchain development. And I agree with Dan's sentiments, totally.

Resteemit for others to enjoy as well! Thank You for doing these!

I never would have seen this video of dan anywhere else. Thanks!

Thanks, yeah it's a Steemit exclusive! :) ...posted on Youtube of course, but still. Until we have video hosting on the blockchain... ;)

I've sort of been poking around for a way to make that happen sooner. Not much progress though.

A way to structure our society, completely voluntary approach, nonviolent approach. Hmmm!

Wow! Dan is a real visionary, and he uses a Mac too! Cool! The "Steem dream" you mentioned when filming this interview has certainly become a reality, allowing Steemit users to dream too! Thanks for posting these videos @lovejoy, look forward to more. Cheers.

The steemit community roles deep. It's like being a part of a secret club. Thanks for this. #minnow

Good video I enjoyed it very much thanks for posting it.

Wonderful and insightful thoughts..he dwells into the realms of human psych where in he correctly identifies the trigger when blockchain will go mainstream

The great thing about a blockchain, is that it keeps a perfect record of events, and you have neither upvoted, nor resteemed. Curious then that you would leave such a message in the comments here.

I'm sorry, it was my fault. I've already corrected

Thank you for letting me know

Sorry to be harsh if it was an honest mistake... it just seemed kinda fishy. No worries though. And thanks.

Usually I make the comment and then I give upvote / resteem. Something probably happened in the meantime that caused this failure.

I honestly can not remember what happened.

Once again, thank you for letting me know!

Thanks for such an interesting interview!

Somehow I don't trust this guy, just a gut feeling.

Yeah, well... you said as much in your last comment. Haters gonna hate I guess.

No I don't hate him, I just don't trust him, perhaps you are closer to the man and know him better, I am not so closed minded as to think I am always right.

I just find it odd when people make it their agenda to spread mistrust, repeatedly, based on 'gut feelings'. It seems like you have an agenda.

No, I don't have an agenda he has just developed and quit two projects and now is on his third one. I think it's reasonable to have doubts. But like I told you I might be wrong.

I don't trust Dan perfectly - and neither do I think anyone should have to - but he intended to do it that way. The real issue imo has been being clear in PR with the entire ecosystem about that.

Fair enough. Well, thankfully, his specialty is building systems which decentralize trust among the community, thus ensuring you don't actually need to trust Dan himself.

I don't know Dan super well, but he hasn't personally given me any reason to not trust him. On the contrary, he has delivered some amazing technology for the benefit of the world.

Great work.
