Taiwan is an interesting place the beautiful island with an intense geopolitical atmosphere and a unique branch of the greater Chinese culture but interestingly enough the Chinese population on Taiwan today are descendants of Han colonizers who came to the island in the 1600s and are the second major group of people to have reach the island Taiwan was originally populated for thousands of years by austronesians people who were similar to Filipinos and Polynesians and so forth they make up about 2% of the Taiwanese population today and how to deal with the level of colonization that was very similar to what was seen in the Americas and Oceania even the desire by the colonizing Han Chinese people to integrate them into the Chinese culture they've had a very hard time remaining a distinct cultural group in the past few hundred years that said in recent times with the help of the Taiwanese government recognizing tribes there has been a revival in the cultural identities of the people ranging from clothing music and native languages but I seen with lost indigenous populations that are a minority it can be an uphill battle
