Intro to my blog (copied from my website www.biochemist.me)

Dear visitor,

I wish to share with you the nature of this blog, what you will find here, it's plans, and the schedule for it coming up. It was originally intended to be used as a tool to boost my career, by demonstrating skills in web design. Currently I'm working on developing my skills at writing and communicating, building a DIY biology laboratory, and building software, though the software is likely to be showcased last. I'm currently using this both to demonstrate my progress and as a tool to keep myself honest when I fall short on my objectives. With that out of the way, on a schedule running from now 08/07/17 to 07/21/18, this is what you should expect to see:

  1. One new book review added weekly. The most recent one to date is on developing memory.
  2. One weekly update regarding progress on the lab construction, and whatever comments I have of interest in new research.
  3. A list of 10 science publications which I have read each week. Going forward, it will be appended to the update on lab construction.
  4. Completion of a monthly lab-related project, usually a piece of equipment or an experiment of interest, with a corresponding write-up. Due at the end of August is a PCR machine, by the end of September an electrophoresis apparatus, and by october either a bioreactor for algae or a yeast gfp experiment, hopefully using CRISPR.
  5. A monthly long-form essay or literature review. Be warned, these will include discussions of personal and controversial topics.
  6. A monthly software project. Planned for the end of August is a simple "hello world" android application. I will be building it out to more advanced things as the year progresses.

I hope you find the content on this site both useful and interesting. Please feel free to reach out to me any time you like if you have questions or comments, but be warned, I may not respond promptly.

Happy Reading,
Michael.
