My name is Danny, a sound artist from Melbourne, Australia going under the name MRSPKR.
Like many of you out there I'm restless. I can't quite fathom the idea of living out the rest of my days in the one town, the one country. Not when there's such a giant, diverse and exciting world out there anyway.
MRSPKR's Expat Wonderland is a series of stories documenting (with generous portions of exaggeration) my travels since leaving the hub-bub of ol' Melbourne town on the southern tip of the remote island of Australia some 9 months ago in search of...... y'know, I still don't know.
Along the way we'll be met with quasi-cult farmers living in a share house among the ruins of the ancient Gaelic empire; encounters with roads so narrow as to render a hire car completely inert while gathering a gang of angry vespa drivers in its non-existent wake; a 60-something German/world-citizen toughing it out in the hills of Andalusia while becoming the region's hard-rock guitar icon; Turkish-Berliners' New Years Eve celebrations - the closest I ever hope to be to a war zone; Hardcore enthusiast skaters and their weekly "burn-it-all" bonfires in the quiet neighbourhoods of Fife; a death on the Pacific Coast railway which turned out to be a most serene and philosophical experience; and the general meandering, introspective whimsy of life on the lam.
I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I enjoy looking back on them, even if I wouldn't want to re-live some of them!
