Nails, ferns, or ferns are a group of plants with a true vessel sistant, but never produce seeds for sexual reproduction. Instead of seeds, this plant group releases spores as a means of dispersal and its propagation resembles a group of organisms such as moss and fungi.

Young leaves are much more desirable and are eaten in all parts whether raw or cooked. They are used as vegetables, or as a beverage ingredient. They are a good source of calcium, a good source of phosphorus and a good source of iron and contain B vitamins. In Indonesia young leaves are used with sugar, because it is good for haemoptysis and common cough spread from Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi to Irian.

Leaves Diplazium esculentum can be used besides vegetables, also nutritious as a liniment to eliminate the smell of sweat. To eliminate the smell of sweat used ± 15 grams of leaves Diplazium esculentum is still young, washed and finely ground and rubbed on the armpits.
