This is a basic introduction to Linux. It answers two questions: what is GNU/Linux? And what it can offer its users? See the advantages for yourself.

A few key features I forgot to mention in the video:

  1. GNU/Linux operating systems are MUCH less susceptible to viruses -- HUGE plus! You don't have to pay annually for any antivirus software or worry about your PC data being compromised in ways that Windows is vulnerable.

  2. GNU/Linux operating systems use less system resources than Windows, allowing most machines to run much faster with GNU/Linux installed. Much. Faster.

    I do dig linux though i prefer debian over ubuntu any day! especially as a beginners playground.
    just my 2¢.

      I'm using Ubuntu Mate. And is Debian lighter and faster than Ubuntu or is it just the appearance that you like, the UI?

        So debian was turned into ubuntu, debian is all free, debian has flex when it comes to interface & ubuntu Is firm.

          It seems a lot of programs in software centers in Ubuntu are also in other Linux operating systems including Debian. Maybe I'm a little confused. The normal Ubuntu distribution was using Unity. And that is when I went to Ubuntu Mate to get the classic user interface (UI). Now, I am looking to replace my Android operating system on my Sony phone with something maybe Ubuntu or something. Have never replaced an operating system on a phone before. But am looking forward to this new challenge.

                    Hey there, I'm Oatmeal Joey Arnold, and I'm a nerd and started learning about Linux and especially Ubuntu with Free Geek in 2007 in Oregon. Currently using Ubuntu Mate on my laptop. I've used different versions and flavors. Different operating systems (OS) and I'm a big fan in general of Ubuntu.
