TAG Guide 1

in introduce •  7 years ago

After the mysterious disappearance of my last post on Tag ABUSE, I have decided to do a quick writeup pointing out the guild to effectively use a tag on steemit.

I consider this the most complicated topic on steemit. This is on the grounds that tags decides our steemit earnings. A well crafted post can miss its targeted viewers and run down the deplete with a little or no views.

Also, a post with lesser quality can get a large number of views and likely upvote if the Tags are properly selected. The Steemit system algorithm can't tell which is a better post just yet.

Avoid using a personalized/ Custom Tag even if it relates to your post

If you belong to a community, Discord, or curation group prepared to curate your work, then it is fine to use their custom Tag(Infact you can acquire a great amount with just a little upvote from them) . but for a novice, abstain from creating your own customised Tags just in light of the fact that you feel it relates to your post(steemit is different from other social network) except obviously you have a high reputation and trying to promote the tag.

See HERE for steemit Tags to select from.

Ps: If a tag isn't found there doesn't suggest it can't be used. Tags there are just trending Tags, but they are most times the best option to get a wider audience. To get a more trending and recent tag, you may enter filter under Tags and topics.

Avoid using tags just because they are popular

You may have tried random Tags in the past, from bitcoin to steemstem to Xyz. This isn't a terrible move but not great either.

Trying to utilize the bitcoin Tags, the Eos, the Steem, busy etc where most of the Steemit biggest players are may pay off sometimes but only when you are sufficiently proficient to get the attention of those already in it. So on the off chance that you know less about them, your post may pick up views but no reward.

And furthermore note that the more well known a tag gets, the more likely posts placed there get covered by newer post. As post are grouped based on related tags.

** Avoid choosing tags randomly,
Compare!**

If you are considering using any of the well known steemit Tags, ensure you make a little correlation. Two Tags can serve almost exactly the same purpose but not trending at same level. Bitcoin/crypto/blockchain can be comparable but by checking the SBD payout against Steemians by the side of steemit.com/tags, you can tell which is best to use at that moment.

Avoid using "disjointed" Tags

The word disjointed was intentionally used as a part of quote to infer Tags that aren't related. The fact that you use a word once in your writing does not mean it merit a tag from that section. The Steemit system is built to function in a way that every single related Tag are sorted for and automatically put in the right category. What's more, that is the reason a post with the bitcoin tag as the primary tag can still trend in crypto or blockchain section.

Stop the Assumptions, copy!

By copy here I don't mean to plagiarise. In the event that you are still in doubt of the right Tags to use, google up related post on steemit

Nb:by adding steemit to a search sorts out just steemit related post

View about three of these post and get comparative Tags from the top players.

Nb: All this rules may still not work if you have a poor followers base say below 150 (just like mine) but don't stress, it will come in handy when you finally do.
