Hi, I'm Johannes, and I believe that the big tech companies have too much power ... to spy on us, force certain technologies on us, keep our data hostage and the like. (I guess that's one reason many of you are on steemit.)
Often there are alternatives for more ethical products, but they tend to be hard find. So with some friends, I'm creating a list of products that don't screw us. It is at:
So next time we, or you, are in the market for a new thermostat, or video editor, or whatever tech product, we can check whether a product exists that doesn't do things behind our back and get that instead of whatever comes up in Google first.
Currently we have about 40 products listed, and we are looking to get to 100. (Know of some? Please let us know.)
Other than that, I'm originally German but have lived in Silicon Valley for a long time, a technologist and entrepreneur, currently building a Linux distribution called UBOS that makes it a lot easier for people to run web applications on hardware they have control over, like a Raspberry Pi.
