Hi,

My name's Alex Brad and this is my first day on this platform. I'm currently in the final year of studying psychology and I'm really passionate about art, design and marketing and how these intertwine with my field of study.

I've been using Photoshop and Illustrator for about 4 years now but I never took them seriously up until last summer when I started to work as an intern in graphic design.
I was hooked.

the eyes never lie

I quickly became more and more curious about different art styles, whether they were digital or not, what differentiated one from another, what techniques were used and even how some of them came into existence. One of the styles I love the most is pixel art and how the style came to evolve over the years into what it is today, in the so called "Hi-Bit Era".

My only project (public project) I am currently working on is UrbanInstincts:

It all started as a sketch almost one year ago and I never really intended to take it where it is today (and by that I mean to have 3 posts per week and actually take it seriously). My first piece of work was putting an animal head as a replacement for my head and then I fiddled with the picture until I reached a desired result.

After that something in me clicked and the idea grew on me. I realised in the retrospect that the head I chose wasn't random, it was because of a feeling inspired by that specific context and person (in this case, myself). A few days have passed and while one of my best friends was at my home and we were drinking heavily, I felt compelled of taking a picture of him while he was explaining one of his lessons he learnt throughout life and, without any thought, I took the snapshot. One hangover later I checked my phone gallery and thought about my little experiment, thus deciding to do it again.

Because of a couple of events, a minor depression episode kicked in, I also felt that this thing was going nowhere, so I stopped. I stopped up until 2 weeks ago (10 months later) when a stranger stumbled online upon my pieces of work, appreciated them and left me a comment: "Brilliant one".
That random stumble and little gesture inspired me so much it made me raise back from the dead my little "project" and transform it into an actual project. I worked on my techniques, defined the style I wanted for the images and set things back in motion. As deadmau5 put it: "If you can impact one person with your music (work), then it is pretty much worth it".

Ever since, I've been listening closely to that feeling I was talking about earlier and whenever I feel a moment which tells a story, which reveals an animal hidden right in the front of our eyes, I capture it. I always try to keep the background stories of my pieces of work to a minimum, leaving the story to unfold in the viewer's mind. This way, they will listen to their own instincts.

I listen to my own instincts and make the most out of it in this urban jungle we live in.

I will post weekly 3 pieces of work from UrbanInstincts and with each post, I will reveal more insights, little by little, into the project. Hopefully, when I'll have more time on my hands, I will come up with more projects.
