Hello Steemit!- Who I am, Why I’m Blogging, and What the Future Holds

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Greetings Steemians! In this post I intend to communicate a bit about myself, the many reasons I am excited to join the community, and what kind of content you can expect to see from me in the future.

^ This is a photo of me taken in an alleyway in downtown Vancouver, Canada- A city which I have recently started calling home.

I am in a stage of life where I consider myself to be ever evolving, and thus I find it quite difficult to summarize myself in a post such as this. For this reason, I will reserve any direct expression of who I am for future posts that speak directly to what I care about, what I’m thinking, what I’m doing, etc.... From this, I hope the reader can gain a deeper and more authentic view into my motivations, fears, ambitions, and other factors that are core to my being. One that is not clouded by any explicit (and in my opinion, somewhat self-absorbed) descriptions of myself and is instead constructed over time in a way that I hope resembled the natural development of an in-person relationship.

I have always found it challenging writing about myself for many reasons. It is a form of vulnerablility that one experiences for prolonged periods of time, from when they first consider how they will structure their self-expression to when they are receiving feedback on what it is that they manage to communicate. Furthermore, living with the amazing technology we have created (which I believe can be both extremely helpful as well as detrimental to us) has made it so that our content, creations, curations, and interactions are forever seen and felt for the reminder of life as we know it once they are made public via the internet. When I ponder this idea, I find it to be a quite overwhelming and substantial commitment to voice any thoughts or feelings I may have! With this all said, with this ambivalence comes a deep, burning desire to express myself in way that fulfils my natural yearning to feel belonging to a community.

Having experimented with different ways we can express ourselves all throughout my (albeit short) life has lead me to adopt the label “artist”, when appropriate. My endeavours in art include but are not limited to filmmaking, music through trumpet and drum kit, visual art through web and graphic design. Aside for a HEAVY level of consumption and appreciation for lyricism in hip hop music and semi-frequent reading of personal development books, what I feel I am lacking is a holistic understanding of language as an art and as means of communicating effectively. I believe that part of changing this is learning to express myself through language. Once I have achieved this understanding, I intend to continue using blogging as a creative outlet and form of documentation of my thoughts, feelings, ideas, curiosities, fears, frustrations, and excitements I may experience in the near future.

“Why steemit?”

I have been looking for this opportunity for what feels like an absolute eternity, but simply couldn’t find a platform that allowed me to feel that belonging I speak of and actually feel like my content is in a format that could be enjoyed for many for a long time to come. It is a combination of steemit’s transparency between users, system of incentives, and the kind of individuals this platform attracts that have convinced me to be a part of it. This culture of self-expression and comradeship that is present on steemit is what makes it what I believe to be the only truly “social” form of social media the world has seen in years. We are all driven by a cupidity to support each other, as supporting each other also serves our own interest through the power of incentives! What this has resulted in is making this community something that is highly rewarding in ways that go far beyond the monetary gain one can potentially incur on the site. The only word I can currently find to describe what I am seeing on this platform is beauty, and I cant wait to be a part of the harmonious beauty demonstrated by the constant creation and curation of great content in a place where frankly, we are all winning together!

I look forward to sharing with you more of my experiences, insight into my philosophies, creations, adventures as we embark on this journey together!

Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, Kanye all have a special place in my heart, but my absolute favourites would need to be Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, and most recently, BROCKHAMPTON.

I know that’s a big list, but they have all been impactful to me at some point, how about you?

Nas! I love NY state of mind. Kanye, Pac, Kendrick is dope - I've heard of A Tribe Called Quest but never got into them.

I like Childish Gambino, Schoolboy Q, and various collection of artists, but I only tend to like single songs lol. Gambino is all time favorite - because the internet
