YouTuber's Guide to Re-Monetizing with STEEMIT! And thank you to my first 253 subs!steemCreated with Sketch.

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hey fellow current and future Steemians!

I'm Alexander, and in 2006, we created a Youtube channel vlogolution where we developed several themes such as HotRoast, moMoneyTV, and PassMeThePork with the hope of educating and sharing a bit of wisdom and insight through satire, parody, and entertainment. Because of the constant "flagging" and "harassment" issues we seemed to have with our more "libertarian / classical liberal" political stance (especially after google took over YouTube), we eventually tried moving away from that sort of content and focusing on our Naughty Tipples Cocktail Recipes show (hosted by @michellectv who just recently also joined steemit).

This video was from 2008?! Sounds like it could've been 2016!

By 2011, our channel had nearly 100,000 subs (when that still meant something) with some pretty decent revenue. However, around mid-2011 our best viral videos were flagged down again, and this time (for no apparent reason at all) YouTube Support decided that many of our videos were no longer "appropriate" for the site (ie. we disagree with your politics). One video alone had over 30 million views, and still exists on copycat channels that YouTube never took down despite multiple requests (apparently, our videos were only "inappropriate for YouTube" on our own channel). Worse, all our new videos were often quickly flagged and rarely allowed to be remonetized (talk about targeting), and our monthly revenue collapsed. "YouTube Partner" meant squat.

It got so bad that soon after, we gave up producing new video for our channel altogether. And YouTube didn't just uphold the demonetization of these videos, they even blocked a bunch of them completely! At which point, all their views also disappeared from our channel. At first, I was shocked that channels such as Alex Jones, Milo, Steven Crowder, Mark Dice, Blaire White, and others managed to survive and seemingly flourish on the site. And then, YouTube pretty much came after all of them too. As Mark Dice says in this video, "if you work at McDonald's, you're probably making more money now than a YouTuber with 1 MILLION subscribers!" He also describes many of the "tricks" YouTube used with us years earlier, back in 2011...

Is there no hope?!

We've been searching for the ideal next generation "censorship-resistant" platform ever since. In the past year alone, the censorship and banning of "dissenting opinions" is worse than ever not just on YouTube, but across all major social media. And even reaching your own subscribers has become more difficult than ever. However disgraceful this banning and censorship may seem, it again points to the impending demise of fully centralized social media platforms, and the importance of migrating over to new censorship-resistant models.

STEEMIT, while still constantly improving, excited me as the first alternative to address censorship and monetization in an entirely new and unique way that may finally be able to compete with these entrenched "regressive left" centralized mainstream behemoths. It even inspired me to once again test the waters, do a bit of posting, and dip my toes back in the game.

And the opportunity to be rewarded for the privilege of doing what many are already doing for free on other platforms, it's all the more just extra frothy whip cream on your deliciously creamy hot chocolate!

A Light at the end of the Tunnel?!

For others who see the writing on the wall, consider sharing this and other incentivizing STEEMIT articles with your fellow suffering YouTubers and other friends across social media as one more reason to "make the leap". As more people realize there's really no downside, and worst case they may still end up with a few extra bucks in their pockets to boot, a critical mass will be reached and they'll start flocking over in droves.

I mean, just for some perspective, let this sink in for a moment... I'm so proud, I finally got @michellectv to make her first post yesterday! She's now up to 8 STEEMIT followers, and her #introduceyourself post has gotten nearly 40 votes and $22 so far (update: now over 155 votes and US $250 )! That single introductory post has already made more money than most people make from their youtube + twitter + facebook + instagram combined! That's probably MORE MONEY than a YouTuber with 1 MILLION subscribers currently earns! And that's just the beginning. Imagine what those numbers will look like at a "whopping" thousand subs. Once she finds her groove on STEEMIT with her captivating work, the sky's the limit!

Link: Michelle - I'd like to introduce you to my Naughty Tipples and more...

It's also important to note that I didn't start out as a WHALE or DOLPHIN on STEEMIT either. I literally started from scratch, learning the subtle nuances of the platform, trying to be a good community member, and sharing content that I believed others would also appreciate and enjoy. Additionally, I quickly learned that STEEMIT has an amazingly passionate culture and community of people that believe in it and support it, which is critical if the platform is to ever receive widespread adoption.

And to think... my "measly little STEEMIT channel" is now already worth considerably more than "chump change", and has just hit over 250 followers, literally just doubling again the past few weeks alone! Getting that first 50 or so was the hardest part and seemed to take forever. After that, it sort of skyrocketed from there. Note that this was done completely organically, without using any bots or old "twitter tricks" such as following thousands of people, hoping to gain a small percentage of them as "follow-backs" (a trick I've noticed a bunch of newer steemians using now).

So THANK YOU fellow steemians for your "vote" of confidence, and appreciation of my "work"! STEEMIT in 2017 feels very much like when we first started on YouTube in 2006, when it was just a budding platform with no monetization whatsoever... EXCEPT that now, we're ALREADY MONETIZING!

Finally, in Conclusion...

On STEEMIT, I've also come across a bunch of truly "intriguing" characters sharing ideas from all walks of life, and producing some really excellent, thought-provoking quality work. I look forward to getting to know even more of you, sharing a few more ideas, and seeing where this new platform can go. And if we can figure out a viable way to monetize older content (including music, videos, etc) with STEEM as well... seems we're getting sooo close to potentially turning this into "the next big thing"!

I suppose I should also mention I've been a trader and investor for over 20 years. I built and programmed the tymoraPRO tradeSCAN trading platform, offering unique trading tools, execution, and proprietary trading and decision-support algorithms for stocks, futures, forex, and options traders (myself included).

And here I am again, singing "Ron Paul is a Virus!" in support of Ron Paul's 2008 electoral run:

Thank you for sharing my post. I'll read your post tomorrow and get back to you with a comment a probably an upvote.

thank you, @teamsteem! If you hadn't made such useful posts, I wouldn't be so compelled to keep sharing 'em!😉 lol ... and that's also why we need to figure out a way to monetize older quality content as well!

Well, I'll hold on my Steem and this will keep on paying me for very long. Hopefully. That's how I see it.

I resteemed this post also! Incredible with what can be done on Steemit earning Steem and then being able to made real life purchases.

Cool, thanks for the quick vid!

This is a fantastic post by @adil, which provides a thorough overview of many useful "tips & tricks" for getting around STEEMIT, as well as how to gain more "traction" on the platform. Definitely worth checking out!

Great write up, thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions as well as your story relating to our platform. All for one and one for all! Namaste :)

thanks @eric-boucher! I also noticed that somehow despite our multiple positive interactions I wasn't following you yet. That oversight has now been rectified! :)

LOL! I wrote a few notices of that nature to a few people over the past little while too. ;) Thanks, your fellowship is appreciated. Namaste :)

fantastic post for the community. Great work my friend, thanks for adding my post in the comments as well much love

thanks for the kind words at @soundlegion, and for sharing all your music with the community!

Instead of repeatedly trying to explain steemit, I'm hoping this post + comments can serve to show YouTubers and others how powerful the model can be, and to inspire those sitting on the fence to finally make the leap!

great to see that steemit is working for you !! Its the hope of all in our community that the word on the social blockchain media that pays for content is out there !! Welcome to you @alexpmorris ! Upvoted, followed, resteemed and shared to facebook ) Your story is Steemits best publicity ! Steem On !

thank you @gomeravibz for the kind words and actions, added you as well!

Welcome to Steemit from citizen press corp and Merkaba film group!
Time for "NewTube" isn't it? See you here.

YES, where is New SteemTube?! Actually, there are some possibilities coming. But the great part for current YouTubers is that they can still post videos to YouTube, then go on to embed their videos into a STEEMIT post and actually make money. They can "color" it up even more with additional markdown-formatted images, footage, references, transcripts, etc which make it even more powerful! And more the more "enticing" and welcoming it is to viewers, the more potential monetization you may achieve!

another great YouTube --> STEEMIT story, this time from musician @soundlegion who's finally found a way to monetize some of his captivating music through STEEMIT...

10 years posting original content music on youtube soundcloud twitter facebook and many others : less than $200 dollars earned (all from youtube)

Great article! I think I've seen some of your videos before, at least the Ron Paul one. Heh. It brought back memories for some reason. It's good to see a decent sized YouTube user on steemit. I have a channel as well, though.. Still pretty small. Working on it though! And yeah.. Definitely made way more here off of steemit than I ever did on YouTube. Way more.
Oh by the way if you weren't aware there is a steemit alternative to YouTube in the works called steemQ.. But.. It's behind schedule from what I've seen and.. Who knows if it will ever happen.. Costs a lot of money to host the file networks for this kind of stuff.

But if steemQ did get something up similar to YouTube.. It would be pretty epic! Interesting times indeed.
Good luck on here! You just earned yourself another follower both here on steemit and on YouTube as well.

thanks for the kind words! there are a few initiatives going, but the great part for current YouTubers is that they can still post videos to YouTube, then go on to embed their videos into a STEEMIT post and actually make money. They can "color" it up even more with additional markdown-formatted images, footage, references, transcripts, etc which make it even enticing and "monetizable". btw, noticed you're from Sedona, Arizona, home of "The Sedona Method" and "Release Technique"! lol

Whooops. Sorry for the super delayed response. I remember reading this one and wanting to respond especially cause you mentioned that Sedona book, heh. But I got a bit lost and hadn't found the time yet to go back down all my messages and respond to them.

You're welcome for the kind words. I agree with you in regards to it being great people can sort of cross platform, and use both at the same time.

If you didn't know.. There is a plan in the works for a steemit equivalent to YouTube called SteemQ. It was suppose to be released by now but I think they are having a trouble with finding funding..

Apparently it takes a lot of money to host the amount of files that a site like YouTube hosts. Heh.
I think that is their main hurdle, but I didn't get that deep into what's going on with them.. If you wanna know more I suggest doing a google search.

And yup! I'm from Sedona. I'm not really familiar with the "The Sedona Method" and "Release Technique"... But.. There's definitely a lot of stuff inspired by this area! Especially New Age and spiritual sorts of things. The main question i get asked living here is.. "Do you know where the closest Vortex is?" Or just.. "Do you know where THE vortex is?" Lol.. Living here my whole life I'm not sure I've ever felt one, but.. I think maybe the whole place might be one big vortex.. I dunno.. There's just a lot of umm.. Lore and superstition and fantasy about Sedona, and.. Perhaps with good reason.. It's an amazingly beautiful place with a fascinating history.

That is kind of funny regarding the vortexes! I do know about steemQ. There are a few others such as bitchute and vid.me - for it to work, it's really gonna have to be some sort of seamless P2P type system, otherwise no one can compete for bandwidth. In the meantime however, people can still use YouTube for hosting/embedding and then post to STEEMIT. They can also add additional "color" and "flair" to their articles with additional transcripts, context, photos, etc, so it's kind of the best of both worlds til someone comes up with a better solution.

I even have a few ideas on how we may be able to remonetize older content (past 7 days) on STEEMIT as well, something I plan to discuss in an upcoming post!

It is kind of funny. I try not to judge them too much, maybe there is something to it and I just can't feel it like them. They did some studies a while back that showed that the red rocks in Sedona alter brainwaves very slightly.. I think it was the iron or copper in the rocks... SO perhaps there is some kind of effect there, I dunno. Anyways..

I was aware of vidme and looked at it the other day.. Looks interesting, but don't know a lot about it yet.. And never heard of bitchute before.. That's a kind of funny name. I know they meant bit-chute, but I can't help but read bitch-ute at times, haha. Thanks for the info though I'll check it out.. I also just saw another one linked that I have open but haven't had a chance to look at so in the spirit of sharing, here's another possible one that I saw someone else link. https://lbry.io/

Your idea about how to monetize older content has me curious, I'll be on the lookout for your future posts much more now that I recognize you and we talked a lil and you seem like a cool guy. Cheers man.

Thanks for the kind words! I checked out lbry a few months back, definitely needs work. I got something like 100 tokens as a developer, which then turned out to be only 98 for some reason. Then I ran their app, and click twice on something to look at it, but apparently, I bought it twice by accident without even realizing it, leaving me with like 20 tokens left!

Even better, whatever content I "bought", wasn't even delivered / available for me to view! No way to "overturn" a non-delivered item either, even though it's all virtual content. Wrote to the developers about it, but never heard back. Not to say they won't eventually work out their issues. But at the time, needless to say, I didn't focus too much more time on it after that. lol

Wow jeez! That doesn't sound so great.. Definitely makes me a bit more hesitant about it.. Thanks for sharing.. Yeah who knows, maybe some day they'll figure it out.. Maybe not. Though it is great to see all these new attempts and people trying! :)

One of the best ways to gain recognition on STEEMIT is by engaging the community, adding thoughtful comments and good quality posts.

Just thought I'd also add these few posts by @shayne, which also confirm what I've been saying about how best to "build your presence" on STEEMIT:

great link for artists on how to "share your art" on STEEMIT:

Link: Steemit for Artists : A New Stage for Craft

During my first few weeks on Steemit… I was posting single images with little to no description. I was making 10 cents here and there when a staple-Steemian by the name of @fairytalelife reached out to me and challenged me to do better by my work. She said “what is your process?… tell me everything!”... and that really woke me up. In that moment I realized that this place isn’t instagram or twitter. I can’t just post a final picture or sum up a produced image in 140 characters.

I thought... as an artist, this could be a major opportunity. Here, you can share your work in the moment, just as you are creating it. You can write about it, take a progress photo, share an idea or inspiration. In most cases honest content receives honest feedback and actual value. That’s an unprecedented thing for an artist to be able to tap into. By finding value in process the Steemit platform could revolutionize the way artists are able to work and support themselves. In this community, your work can be elevated in an unprecedented way.

here's a great video just posted by @andrarchy, who is the Community Liaison for Steemit Inc. He provides a brief overview of the reward system used on Steemit.com, which is a social network and media publication platform built on the Steem Blockchain. It leverages Blockchain technology to reward its users in a form of "cash" and "shares".

another great post, this time by @intelliguy. This basically describes my process of building up a presence on STEEMIT, and how by simply creating quality content, and interacting with the community in a helpful and engaging fashion, you can start gaining some pretty serious traction.

That's exactly what I've been doing, and whereas I had 253 subs when I first posted this article, 11 days later I am now grateful for my first 360 follows! And note that I never once went around asking for votes or follows either. While that may work for some in rare cases, it's best to let your work speak for itself. More often than not, it may actually deter people from engaging or following you back.

Haha! My boozy hot chocolate in May? Cheers Alex! :D

Welcome @alexpmorris and bravo on a great article! It's great to see more and more people coming to Steemit and this post you wrote is a solid argument for it. Thank you and Steem on!

two more great examples of how STEEMIT has positively changed people's lives and given them a chance at "something better":

this video does a great job explaining the difference between government FIAT currencies and crypto currencies such as bitcoin and STEEM:

this is the video embed for Mark Dice's video:

"if you work at McDonald's, you're probably making more money now than a YouTuber with 1 MILLION subscribers!"

Totally true! I have over 45K subs on Youtube and the bottom has dropped out. I've woken up a number of times in the morning to only find my channel in Youtube jail.

More amazing, I'd almost bet your cool posts with only 92 followers on steemit have already earned you more than you've made on YouTube recently, with much less aggravation and hair pulling to boot! Nothing worse than working your butt off on a video, to be immediately knocked down for no apparent reason (with the flagging upheld)!

Yet, Katy Perry's latest sick video "Bon Appetit" on cannibalism/peda and eating people, now has over 68MM views and counting. Any question whatsoever that YouTube would have a problem with it? I'm sort of convinced that YouTube's run by some kind of blood cult or something.

here's another nice story... how much can you earning posting the same content on steemit versus on facebook:

Link: Facebook vs. Steemit

This is an excellent guide that explains the differences between STEEM the crypto-currency, versus its associated "smart contracts", STEEM POWER, and SBD (STEEM-BACKED DOLLARS):

Link: Steemit Financial Instruments: Steem, Steem Power & Steem Dollar Explained

You nailed it... Great stuff, I just wonder if there is some massive separation of humanity is in progress, the socially engineered and the rest who can see the engineering. I hope you can bring your subs with you and take down tube!!!

I think it's been that way throughout history. You may also appreciate this post on "Why Less than 10% Make Change Happen" by Martin Armstrong:

Critical thinking that leads a person to question his immediate surroundings takes place in less than 10% of the population. It has long been recognized that education today seems more about indoctrination.

Therefore, the one person out of 10 who sees, is all you need. They are the few who are truly the movers and shakers throughout history. They may be the ones others laughed at or ignored and may have even been the unpopular kid in school who just did not fit into the crowd. They are the dreamers who see the future when the time comes and make dreams come true.

Welcome and thanks for spreading the word on Twitter!

that really was pretty silly and short-sighted of him. even if monero lost out this round, a bunch of those cryptos should probably be offered by btcc. if anything, sadly for him and monero, his attitude may have cost him a great opportunity to get more people familiar with his "platform" as well. crazy, he even still has more STEEM than I do so far!

Yes for sure. There seem to be no bounds to idiocy on Twitter. Have to admit to engaging in it myself occasionally!

here's another great STEEMIT story linking the "crypto world" to the "physical world". I mean, what good is STEEM if you can't use it to buy groceries or pay the rent, right...?

So, for you, the new Steemit user reading this now, today is May 19th, 2017 and this is the day when I paid my rent with Steem. I paid my rent with money that I made on Steemit, by doing things I love and enjoy, such as writing and reading articles, debating and having pleasant discussions with other members of this community. Today is the day that Steem has gained my full trust and I will do my best to let everyone know about it.

Link: IN STEEM I TRUST (AND SO DOES MY LANDLORD)

It's funny how facebook and google want to get rid of the echo bubble but the way they censor, that is the inevitable result. Can't wait for YouSteem :)

@alexpmorris, not sure how we have not stumbled across one another on steemit as of yet. I have been investing & trading for nearly 20 years as well (5 of that as full time prop trader) and been doing alot of real estate in recent years.

Always happy to see fellow traders on this platform. We are a small niche in this steemit world! Following you now.

thanks @scaredycatguide - nice meeting you too - does that mean you've been around long enough to remember characters such as Bugsy aka Walter from the Worldco days?! lol

LOL...think that one has me by a few years. I do remember the SOES bandits and good old fractions. Man, trading was easier before decimals.

if you're still looking for fractions you can always check out treasury bond futures! lol

also wanted to share some stories and experiences from two of our newest YouTube members to join STEEMIT. They each have a pretty sizable following on YouTube, so some of you may already be familiar with @willtheykillyou and @world5list and their terrific work over there.

I hope you'll find their perspectives on joining STEEMIT interesting and insightful:

thank you @margaretwise - really liked your post about the bees btw!

Oh thank you so much. Yes I love those little fellows very much. I am glad that you like it. I hope you have wonderful day and enjoy it 🤗😁

The video in question was actually 34.4 million views according to the analytics! Imagine how many views it would have if it was still up! It's still upsetting to see that "v1ogo1ution" account is still up and monetizing our original, copyrighted content!

I cannot believe that I found the "PassMeThePork" guy on Steemit! Fantastic article, thank you! I just upvoted you. I'm new here. Please follow me @rbfromsa for some awesome recipes and good luck with steem.

Thank you for this! Its gonna help a lot of newbies like me! Resteemed!

glad you found it helpful! I've also added a bunch of additional links and video references in the comment section as well.

Are your youtube followers aware that you are on steemit?

we really haven't posted to our vlogolution channel for years, and as I mentioned even if we do, YouTube seemed to make sure most of our followers are unaware of it (from reports, this "problem" is worse than ever these days). However, we do cross-post our steemit links to any of our YouTube followers that we were able to migrate over to facebook, twitter, etc.

This is a great post! Wonderful way to promote steemit and getting your friends and followers on here! I am following you now :)

thanks for the kind words! following you too, and broke another record for you, welcome to 200 followers! :D

Yes! I will do a post about that! Thank you for breaking that record! :)

Good job and nice post

Followed and upvoted, interestingly I wrote a blog today which talks about the demise of YouTube, MTV and the rise of Steemit! Glad to have you here.

As a small Youtuber, I found this post really helpful! Thanks for sharing!

Welcome to STEEMIT, I'm glad you found the post helpful! And by also sharing your work on STEEMIT, I'm confident that you'll find your YouTube and blogging efforts dramatically more rewarding!

Shit. Wish I had seen this post when you did it. Good stuff.

thanks for the kind words, glad you found it helpful!

wondering when @matt-a was gonna join our little "post party" too?! while still waiting for my 'ole buddy rockstar pilot @jricco to get his first post up, even my folks have now signed up for steemit accounts (though one still "stuck in the queue")...

Check out @matt-a 's post for a chance to win a permanent spot on his "~100,000 Steem Powered Voting Bot @ 100%"!

What a great read! Moving through times and remembering how things used to be. I'm glad Steemit gave you a way to express yourself.

Interesting indeed! steemit is definitely kicking youtube's ass

Thank you for this. I am a writer and life coach and have tried it with Youtube and even Udemy with no success. Steemit is the way to go!

Youtube is loosing it's ground and becoming an itch for most youtube creators. But finally Steemit saves our day! Congrats on your new hold!!!

thank you @siddartha! yeah, could you just imagine a few years down the road steemit with a million subs?! just sit around and post all day, and do little more than invest it all in the next market crash! lol

Haha! I can surely see you with more than 1 million subs down the road. Your create quality posts.

aww, now you're just trying to flatter me sir! thank you for the kind words!

Thanks for publishing this post and let know about you. YES, there is hope. The (r)evolution is going and can't be stopped :) The world is on his way to salvation (maybe slowly but certainly one day). Steemit and similars will certainly accelerate the process. Upvoted, resteemed and following you. Feel free to follow me back if you want too.

Thanks for the tips Alexander.
