Welcome to Steemit and remember that this is a community you are joining, mostly like-minded people who share the same or similar values. You will need to put up good posts with either photos or stories or news or any information that will attract the readers to vote for you - don't expect to get one just because you asked for it. The work part comes from your curation, you have to look at other's posts that attract you, or interest you, and vote on them. Slowly you will build your reputation and by gaining votes get paid for it. It works, it just takes time and effort. Good luck!
