I know you want to get your views and you want to get some money from some upvotes. BUT, that doesn't mean you need to comment on everything. Little comments that don't provide insight, opinion or relevance need to stop.
Instead, if you're trying to get people to like you and get follows you should post comments that add some value to the conversation. This is easy and only takes a few minutes of reading!
You will get far more valuable followers if you leave thoughtful comments that prove you even read the post you're commenting on.
It's impossible fake your way to becoming a whale.

There is no need to do anything about it. When they find out their comment does not have any payout, they will stop writing these spam comments and try to write something with quality

Totally agree with you, that we need to stop doing that but not in this stage of development of this community . It's still growing , a lot of newbies literally know nothing . in my opinion soon enough they will fix that , but for know we need that stats !

I'm spending a lot of time welcoming new members and trying to post quality comments. I hate spamming.. so I'm really trying to stay grounded and really engage with people. People respond well to that--there really isn't a way to fake it. People almost always know spam when they see it. I've been here only a few days, but have worked really hard to authentically connect with people.

Like you said, it's a trend. I do think it will continue for a while with people who think they're going to make a living on spamming the comments. When they realize there is no real money in doing that it will slow down. Unfourtunately it will probably get a lot worse before it gets better. Steemit is still in it's infancy, It will take time, but I believe things will work themselves out over time.

haha I know what you mean... But kissing ass personally doesn't bother me (YET). I usually don't read short comments and look for lengthy ones to put my attention too. Some would find value in a short worded comments :) People should comment and engage with others as they wish as long as they are not posting unrelated links or so and not being total douches.

Thus far, everything I have replied to I have read. Not only have I read it, I have only upvoted it if it met two criteria;
That said, many people are "Facebook trained" and blindly hit "like" (in this case upvote) and comment "Ha!" or some other conversational response. If the motivation is income, well shame on them. If the motivation is simply that's the way they interact conversationally, perhaps engagement can help them to become more eloquent in online communication.

You're right that spamming will get new users nowhere. I'm a new user myself, but I understand that gaining followers is more of a slow jog than a full sprint if that analogy make sense. Followers will come in due time with quality posts and comments.

The important word in my previous reply is "valuable". Spam comments are not valuable. In the post, I encourage people to engage with thoughtful comments. So yes I do believe it is an example of that.
