INTRODUCING MYSELF: A FASHION DESIGNER & TEXTILE ARTIST´S TIMELINE

Hello everybody, my name is Bárbara Fuentes and I am from Mexico, what you are about to read is a resumed biograpgy and how my life as a fashion designer started..

I was born in Mexico City in 1990 I was raised in Coyoacán (where Frida Kahlo used to live). At that time my mother was directing a big theater and it was then that my life as an artist started. I used to act in theaters, TV commercials, dancing presentations, radio and many more activities.

At the age of 7 my family and I went to live to Puebla (next to Mexico city) and my whole life changed, there was no more acting, no more theaters, no more painting, not many artistic activity but ART has always been part of me so when I was about 8-9 years old i started to make beaded jewelry as a hobby, nothing serious. But my mother´s priority has always been to potencialize my artistic skills, so she was always giving me any kind of materials so I could create.

I´ve always had the vision of creating to sell and share my ART, so when I was a teenager I knew I wanted to study something related to art, at that time i thought i was gonna be a painter, plastic arts, sculpting, or something like that but my drawing was not good at all, it was so hard for me, and it was when I was 16 that my passion for FASHION started to show up, I was the most stylish girl in school and surrounding. I started as a PERSONAL SHOPPER at 16, a lot of people wanted me to go shopping with them when they needed a fashion and style makeover. I was naturally a trendsetter.

When I was 18 I knew I wanted to create clothing but I didnt have any idea on how i was gonna make it. So EXPERIMENTATION became protagonist at that time of my life. I started to create TEXTILE ART, small woven pieces, that later on I started a textile Jewelry line, selling it online, and around my city in different markets and festivals.

At the age of 21 I went to the mountain in Oaxaca to create my first clothing collection, it was a YogaWear collection, dyed with natural elements like mango leaves, adobe, turmeric, flowers, indigo, seeds and many more. I co-worked with the women and children showing them everything I knew about textiles and they helped me creating this amazing collection.

At the age of 22 I finally got into the Sewing School, so I learned how to make clothing! finally! So then I improved my jeweley line and starting to make clothing to sell them online around the country.



At the age of 24 I finished my first technical degree in fashion, so I wanted the big one! So I went to live to Tijuana, Mexico to start my fashion carreer, in the university i leanred everuthing about fashion, the history, accesories, lingerie, serigraphy, fashion drawing, textiles, jewelry and my mind exploded to the fashion world and the infinite possibilities.




In April the 20th I graduated from Fashion School! And I created a whole colection inspired by CUBISM, I´ve always been attracted to abstract art, and this was my big opportunity to show my talent, to make people see art in different perspectives.
Always keeping the feminine esthetic.
