Introducing bex-dk

I hate this sort of thing. I hate talking about myself almost as much as I hate being in pictures. You're lucky you can sorta tell who I am from my profile picture...

I grew up in PA in the US and finished my college degree over there before moving to Denmark. I've been living abroad since then, but I only have US citizenship.

I am one of those scatterbrained people who has a zillion different interests and always seem to have several projects going at a time (and sometimes difficulties finishing them). One thing that hasn't changed since I was 3 years old is reading. I read and devour books at a pace most people find overwhelming. Generally I say I average about a book a day, but since I've been pushing to get some ratings and reviews onto Goodreads, it seems that I have exceeded this pretty well. Since such a high reading rate is hard for people to believe, I stuck in a 365 book reading goal for 2017... You can check my status at (https://www.goodreads.com/user_challenges/8451405 but beware I am often behind posting reviews.

Together with my husband, I have 7 horses... A quarter, 3 paints, and 3 shetland ponies. I've found since my health got really bad some years ago that riding keeps me able to walk.IMG_20170714_084651.JPG

We additionally have two border collies. Molly, the older one, works as a service dog for me when I need her. IMG_20170330_074603.jpg

Once upon a time, I worked as a manual editor in the IT field, but I had to give that up when my health failed. These days I only "work" at a very slow pace in my hobby non-business (http://www.rrww.dk) doing rope and leather work, but my site is only in Danish. I'm mostly bilingual, although my Danish isn't at a professional level and my pronunciation has issues.

I also do some hobby photography, especially birds and flowers, but I'm not that good. A lot of my photography these days is taken especially for my family. My grandmother, who is 101, has a nifty frame that lets her family send her pictures, so I try to show her what life is like in Denmark. Occasionally I manage to shoot something that might be interesting for other people.

Since we have the aforementioned animals and I'm on disability and my husband is retired, I also know a bit about living on a budget. Of course that is easier in DK than in the US since we have health care, government pensions, etc.

I fear that my posting may get excessively annoying for some followers, because I have so many diverse interests. So don't worry if you choose not to follow me, but just to drop by once in a while when I post something you find interesting. I won't be offended. We will have to see if I can manage to write anything vaguely interesting for people-who-don't-really-know-me.

My thanks to anyone who managed to get through all this. I know I somewhat broke etiquette by not posting a picture of myself with a note with my username, but as I said before, I HATE having my picture taken! I hate even more letting anyone see pictures with me in it. If someone really needs me to verify I am me, perhaps we can settle on posting a pic of a dog or horse with a hand written sign? Or posting some of my work with a note next to it?

I really hope I figured out this tagging thing properly. If not, I apologize in advance.

G'day @bex-dk! Welcome to the platform :]

Goddag to you too! I find it intriguing that the Australian g'day is so similar to the Danish and other Scandinavian greetings

Hello @bex-dk. Welcome to Steemit. I am David. I wish you have a happy journey here.

Thank you!

So good to see you here! :-) Thank you for tagging me on FB. :-) You'll love Steemit.

First I need to start feeling like I have a clue what I am doing. Am I supposed to upvote the comments on everyone who comments, or only if they are especially eloquent? Do I upvote posts I find useful or interesting, or only if they aren't already popular? I am not worrying about getting money from it all, but about how one becomes a good member of the community....

You definitely don't want to upvote much. Unlike Facebook "likes," upvotes here drain your voting power. You can usually upvote about ten times a day and still recover voting strength in 24 hours. Once you reach 500SP, you get a slider to adjust your voting strength so you can vote more at lower percentages. :-)

The best thing to do at Steemit is comment and reply, in order to meet people. You don't have to become whale fans or be a groupie. That's a common misconception. Find your tribe (hello! Rhonda stands, waves hand) and you help each other grow.
