Five months ago, fresh out of the Christmas holidays I found myself suddenly back at university and like every other uni student I needed to make some money. If you hadn't figured out by now, I study in the UK; so to what I am assuming is a predominately US audience, university is what my friends from across the pond would call college.
Just like most newcomers to the crypto-scene, my first gateway into world of cryptocurrencies was Bitcoin. Driven by the massive gains Bitcoin had been making I quickly began to delve into this curious world of blockchains, white paper and exchanges. Only half understanding the technology behind these coins, I opened up a Coinbase account and purchased a small amount of Bitcoin trading at around ~$820 a coin. Noticing another coin called Ethereum, that again I only half understood, decided to buy a single coin at ~$10 (I have nightmares that I didn't buy more at this price but I am only a university student!).
On to Steem
Hungry to acquire more of these coins, I discovered Steem. After reading as much as I could about it (making sure I understood only half ) I decided to open an account on Steemit in the middle of January. Completely unaware I had received Steem Power on creation of my account, I promptly forgot all about it and went back to everyday life of unrealistic course deadlines and 9 am lectures.
I remained in the cryptocurrency space, only really focusing on Ethereum and trying to see how far the coin could go. Fast-forward to June, my flatmate and I were discussing cryptocurrencies and he mentioned Steem and encouraged me to create an account.
Now this is embarrassing. I had completely forgotten that I had created an account and in my foolishness, tried creating another one with the same username! My username is a unique one and so I was surprised to see the flashing red outline telling me it was taken. It was only then I realised I already had account!
My friend, shocked that I had an account, encouraged me to check my wallet because he knew free Steem Power is given to the user on creation of an account. I quickly my opened wallet to find this...
Dumbfounded I could have acquired such a large amount of money (remember I am a student!) I decided I had to share this with the Steem community and by doing become an actual active member of this amazing community.
Things to note
This was my first ever post on Steem and I hope the community can be forgiving of any formatting mistakes that I've made! Any suggestions on how I can improve my writing style/formatting would be so greatly appreciated.
This was my first article but I hope to post many more in the future. Thanks for reading:)
