I was never one to really participate in twitter, facebook or other social networking sites because I never liked the whole idea of one corporation controlling everything. For years I was a member but I can count the number of posts on my fingers. For me it was just a big waste of time.
Then in 2014 I heard about blockchain and I learned about it fast. Since I have an extensive programming background and work with security applications and encryption I realized the capabilities of blockchain. I predicted all the regulations, backlash, criticism, scams well before the 2017 boom. I made some money as many did because 2017 was really when bitcoin went mainstream.
I never really intend to return because now its just a corrupt system of uniformed investors who have no grasp of blockchain technology and think they will get rich quick. This is my opinion and some may not agree but crypto-currency as it is today has many problems which will prevent it from scaling and prevent it from being a stable asset. I know the technology well and have coded bitcoin core applications. I will talk more about all this in another post some time.
But I do want to mention one important thing I see with blockchain. Blockchain has the potential to decentralize virtually everything online. This includes every single application that runs centralized on the web today. The United States may or may not see the big picture here and I think they are banning everything because they are scared not because they tell the public it’s all scams.
But blockchain is not all scams its far from scams it’s called decentralization and it’s a threat to large industries, big business and governments. Today governments require people to form corporations and register them with the state. But what happens when we form decentralized corporations where hundreds of people mine and own one decentralized entity. How does the state register a decentralized group of bloggers on Steemit for example? We are all making money we are all a part of this decentralized revenue. Governments have no idea how to control this and this is exactly where all blockchain applications are going. For bloggers like us this type of platform provides a lot of value and freedom of speech that no central authority can manipulate.
It is not all bad for governments and big corporations who will start using the technology. The ones who do participate in decentralization will benefit and I believe the ones who do not participate will perish. Facebook banned blockchain related ads and I believe that was the nail in their coffin because facebook days are numbered to begin with. Blockchain will eventually take their users away. They should have taken the revenue when they could but on the flip side it benefits us blockchain makers because its more reason for us to decentralize things like facebook.
On a last note I had a friend tell me the big players like Google are waiting to scoop up big blockchain groups like SteemIt and whoever else grows big. I really do not agree because again SteemIt is not a corporate entity. This is a card many big corporations played for years. Wait for startups to grow and then acquire them. Some big corporations this is the only thing they do is acquire startups. But blockchain is very different it does not have this structure.
If SteemIt really implemented a decentralized blockchain platform then we all own SteemIt. There is essentially no centralized corporate entity here for Google to take. So, are the big players waiting to scoop up successful blockchain startups? Maybe they think so but knowing the technology I doubt that will really work very well and most of these centralized applications online will slowly fade into internet history. Its a hard concept to grasp how multiple billion dollar entities could be wiped off the web in a matter of years but its all possible.
Good to meet you all. Hope we can strike up some great conversations. I have a lot of other predictions about blockchain and how it will change the lives of our children. By the way I have two decentralized platforms that I started a few years ago. I will talk more about them on another post some time. Great to see Dtube get started and I hope it really does make youtube users move away from such a centralized, manipulated and controlled platform.
