I first created this Steemit account a few months ago ago but as those who are smart enough/creepy enough to go through my history will probably know, I only posted my first articles today; previously I'd only ever commented upon other people's work.
In the past, I felt excited about Steem as a project as it would reward creators for providing decent quality content and in fact, I was actually impressed by a few pieces that I saw here.
However, if one is going to become a regular poster of content, I feel that it is vital to ensure that you can create something that meets a certain standard. I initially felt that this could require one to do a decent bit of research, accurately refer to academic sources etc. Usually, I do not have enough spare time to do that, but do wish to write something slightly better than a lazy Facebook post. A lot of posters were barely even doing this and that didn't motivate me to continue.
Recently, I have been attracted back to Steemit, and decided that in order to ensure that I can provide decent content, I needed to set a certain theme for my page or have a real purpose. I created another account for this that had a more suitable username dedicated to what it was intended for.
After being left also stuck with this old account:blog, I also wondered what one could do with it. Today, the answer came to me. Many a sceptic or critic will tear apart content uploaded to the likes of YouTube but I'd rather type something for people to read. It will annoy some people, but they aren't forced to read it.
My opinion pieces won't always be perfectly written and I'll often be too lazy to provide all my sources. Chances are that I'll write half of this shit when I get back from the pub. But it finally serves a purpose and that's probably a good thing.
Many people are writing on Steemit simply in the hope of earning cryptocurrency. To say that the idea is not an attractive one would be a lie. However, one should not forgot to enjoy writing even if just for fun. Steemit isn't going to make most of us rich, but we've potentially got a good little casual writing community going on here, no?
After more than a year on Steemit I realized that only with practice you get better at it. So don't be afraid to experiment at the beginning, what is important is to be active. The more you write, the better posts you will make. Quality is something we really work for, and it's obvious when someone was too lazy to really make something of value and is just hoping for a whale vote. I wish you a wonderful journey and don't forget to Steem on!
