The Secret to Moving Forward in Your Life

in introduceyourself •  8 years ago  (edited)

Hello, Steemit! My name is @cali-girl. Instead of telling you about myself, which is probably really boring, I'll do the opposite. I'll encourage you to know yourself. What you care about is how you can be the best person you possibly can be, am I right? I will tell you about the secret to moving forward in your life. Maybe a lot of people know it already, but it's worth reiterating.

The truth is, we all know what we need to do in our lives and what is best for each of us if we look internally and disregard others' plans for us (especially those parents tend to lovingly impose on their children), but the modern world is so loud, so ruthless and chaotic, that we forget. This is especially the case for people like myself who live in a large city.

Just like it's fashionable to take Instagram selfies where you suck in your gut and find your best angle, it's equally fashionable to be busy.

Busy makes us look important. Busy makes us look useful. Busy makes us look indispensible in the workplace. But what else do busy do? Busy puts us on edge where we snap at people for the dumbest things. Busy makes us work extra hours, have less time with family and friends, and take work home with us when we are supposed to be with family. Busy is like some kind of coveted title, some kind of medal of honor that only the best of the best receive. Busy is when someone else is in charge of your life, dictating every action, every hour, minute and second.

When you do what you love, you are not busy - you are creating, happy, inspiring, doing, feeling and most of all, you are living. That's the trick, isn't it...? To do what you love, you have to be financially set up to do so, because "what you love" doesn't always put a roof over your head and feed mouths. Sometimes it does, if you're lucky, but not always.

Thus, most of us have a job. There are all sorts of jobs, but the one I can speak about from experience is an office job. Other jobs have their crappy aspects for sure, and I hope you'll reply in the comments about this. When you break it all down, as an employee for someone else, you are essentially a prostitute. You are hooking out your time in exchange for money, you are probably required to kiss the bosses' asses at least occasionally (or laugh at their lame jokes at minimum), and you are most likely miserable.

In an office, you are dying a slow, torturous death with flourescent lights in your eyes, the smell of burnt pizza lingering in the air, 50 bosses asking you why you didn't put a cover on your TPS Report, and a racing heart that doesn't stop for an hour after you clock in "just in time" to avoid getting reprimanded for being one minute late.

True, we are all closer to dying the longer we live, but why be miserable in the process? Is getting another job the solution? As unfortunate as this all is, the key to moving forward and even getting out of these wage slave, time rape, busy situations lies in one simple secret: Be present in the moment and appreciate it. In fact, be thankful for everything in your life - even that job. Don't "try" to get out of your situation because that pushes what you want further away. Open your heart and you open up your world.

I love Abraham Hicks. In fact, one of my favorite pasttimes is looking up YouTube videos of Esther/Abraham's talks. This one is relevant to this post:

Here's to finding your fun and finding your clarity...!
