Introducing Copypastewaster: an account dedicated to reporting rewards pool rapists

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hey Steemit,

I'm Copypastewaster, an account dedicated to sifting out and reporting plagiarism, copypasta and comment spam self-voters.*

These users drain the rewards pool without adding any value to the Steemit community. Every Steem Dollar that goes to one of these users means one less Steem Dollar for Steemians creating original content. These users are parasites, plain and simple.

I've already reported one notorious copypasta-whaleech who has been draining thousands of dollars from the rewards pool each and every month. Pressing two keyboard shortcuts twice a day should not earn you a full time income. I am not aware of any more accounts of that scale at this time, but I am on the lookout and will report them to @Steemcleaners as I find.

This account was created with anonsteem so my masters can clean up Steemit without fear of reprisal. If I am nuked, I will rise forth from the ashes like a spam-fighting phoenix. My claws are only small at the moment, but they will grow in time.

The best way of reporting Steemit abuse is via the Steemcleaners channels on steemit.chat, you will even get paid for your efforts. If however, for some reason you would like a buffer between yourself and the act of reporting, you can DM me on Discord and I will do the dirty work for you (I will keep any rewards though). You'll find me lurking around the MSP server (no affiliation).

If you'd like to contribute to keeping Steemit clean, the best way is to donate directly to @Steemcleaners. If however, you would also like to support my reporting efforts, I will gratefully accept donations or delegations of any size.

Thanks guys, hopefully you won't be seeing me around your blogs!

*Note though I disagree with the practice of upvoting your own comments, if the user's comment is on topic and not spam, there is not much anyone can do

Great Post we used all our Steem Power to Upvote this Post. More people need to take notice that Good orginal Content should be rewarded on Steemit however those posting garbage or other peoples content should get the boot.

There is irony here, for those who would see it.

I certainly do....

Me too..

Hello @Copypastewaster - welcome to Steemit ! i am @digital-gypsy - nice to meet you and all the best !

This post received a 2.5% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @digital-gypsy! For more information, click here!

@copypastewaster yes! Happy you're going to be fighting this battle! We deserarately need you. Please tell people about www.tineye.com. I wrote a post on it a while ago. It catches plager... I mean parasites a lot better than just the "search Google for this image" does. Resteeming you!

Thanks for the tip!

Clean up these streets, get rid of the leeches, help us thrive.

You are doing a great service to our community, and I commend you.

Thanks mate, means a lot. Most comments have been overwhelmingly positive - only had a couple of trollops.

Steemit can only grow with quality content and we have to be sure that quality content is duly rewarded. Those who try to pass off other's work as their own should be penalized. I just wrote about flagging, hope that you do not mind if I paste the link here.
Newbie Nuggets: How To Prevent Your Post From Being Flagged
A lot of new users may not know about these things.

Very true and that's fine to share your post - I have no problem with on topic linking.

Keep up the good work then. Steemit will benefit because of users like you.

Thanks positivesteem - appreciate it :)

"I've already reported one notorious copypasta-whaleech who has been draining thousands of dollars from the rewards pool each and every month."

Does it rhyme with RookingCream? Because if so, I may have written a post about this as well.

No but I will look into :)

I assumed the name was CookingCream ... can't find lol can you dm me on discord or steemit.chat or just link to your post if you don't give AF

Thank you for helping keep things clean and working correctly.

Thanks for your feedback Steph! All the positive comments make it worthwhile and neutralize the few abusive comments I've got.

Thank you for your efforts.

I tire of the zero-effort copy and paste article posters myself. I even ran across an account "zer0hedge" that is blatantly posting articles from the zerohedge.com website in their entirety, with zero added commentary.

Its things like these that deprive those that are actually contributing to the platform from receiving their just rewards.

Keep up the fight, it keeps the platform functioning!

^^ inspiration for this account and it's probably going to get nuked very shortly.

I am not sure that zer0hedge is a problem. He's a well-established guy on the interwebs, and he copy-pastes his blog here. That goes against Steem ideals, but at least it is within his rights to do so.

The bigger problem is the zillions who don't write or lift a finger and re-post articles that they didn't write. Or the images they find.

I'd love to hear your logic on this. I, for one, would likely never see his blogs elsewhere, but I do see them trend on Steem and read them from time to time. I personally think it seems like a good way to cross-over from the outside world to Steem. I'm not prepared to tell him to go shuck corn because he likes blogging outside of Steem still.

That guy is not ZeroHedge/Tyler Durden ... it's just some guy copy pasting from zerohedge

I did not know that! Interesting.

more tools to fight the battle not bad :)

:)

Welcome to Steemit but please be aware I used to write for www.wearechange.org under the alias Aaron Kesel aka AK so my work is my own not stolen and it's my original content.

This is a problem I'm sure many people have as they cross post articles on different publishing platforms or repost old posts from legacy platforms, especially if they use a different user name. It could easily look like they are plagiarizing their own content.

If there is any doubt maybe there could be a mechanism to associate two accounts or otherwise prove that the Steemian has edit control over the other account or article. Give them a unique key that they can then add or post retroactively on the other platform. Keybase does something like this - for instance to prove you are a certain user on Twitter they give you a special message and then you post it on Twitter publicly and once confirmed your Twitter account is linked to your Keybase account.

Steemcleaners are very thorough, I don't think anyone's ever been nuked for posting their own stuff, but I could be wrong! I publish things on one site and again here and Cheetah doesn't even pick it up lol

"The more the merrier" as far as I am concerned... I've taken to flagging some of the worst offenders I encounter. I fear we're only on the very leading edge of a massive influx of such users... and "but we're on the blockchain" notwithstanding... these "clicking for cash cockroaches" can take down a site in a matter of months.

Right now, we're only dealing with 2000-odd new accounts a day... try dealing with two million accounts in the course of a few months.

So good luck to you, whoever "you" are!

Thanks Denmarkguy, yeah the account I reported today was honestly pulling 500-600 USD a week just copypasting from one website.

Will you be watching the Steemcleaners channel or elsewhere to source posts to warn and/or flag? I have a team of dev's here and we were discussing some of the different spamy stuff here and ways to fight it.

No I do not have the power to flag atm - all I will be doing is reporting cases to Steemcleaners as I come across them. Comment spam is easy to find as it finds you!

New bot to try and whore up some steem? Another content cop just as bad as the people he says he is here to stop. Don't give this guys account anything. There is enough bots on steemit as it is. We don't need more of these whore accounts around.

A) Not a bot
B) I make more money on original posts from my own account - this is a cost center
C) Yes guys, don't give me anything - as I said it's better if you just donate to Steemcleaners
D)^^This guy's mum was asking questions for him about why he was @Cheetah'd for copypasta ... I answered her questions and tried to help and now he is throwing a teary tantrum :'(

No tantrum, just a warning. I dont like what seem to be scammers like you going around posing to be something you are not. You are just as scummy as the ones you are supposedly out to stop. People would rather have someone with experience and a reputation to help in things like this. There are already people dedicated to doing this. Didnt need some noob 3 hours old account to try and help me. There is enough of these content cops whore accounts already. Dont need more greedy people like you making more. What you are doing is the same as someone making a fake sob story to try and get steem out of people. Unlike most here, I can see straight through your plan. Leave these flagging accounts and content cops accounts to the professionals, we dont need posers like you here. You will do more damage than good.

Why dont we all start making these accounts like you... If you wanted to truly help you wouldnt have made a second account to pose as an authority. You could do the same thing with your real account and it would look a lot more respectable. Instead you made this account to try look official and make profits.

I will say it again as you seem to struggle with basic comprehension. This is a second account set up to fight spam and plagiarism. It is anon because I knew I would cop flak from insolent idiots like yourself who can't handle constructive criticism and I do write on Steemit professionally so I didn't want my personal account littered with BS like this. I would be making a lot more money if I was posting on my primary account right now, so not quite sure how this is a scam.

I'd love it if everyone set up accounts like this and stopped upvoting the real scammers who add nothing, then I wouldn't have to bother. You say there's enough accounts like this, but there really isn't. I set this account up so I could report a notorious copypasta who was earning $600 USD a week just copying and pasting from a single website - do you actually think that's fair? That he should earn a full time income while creators of original content struggle? That account had been around for a year, but I guess I should have just left it and waited for the other accounts you speak of to deal with.

You don't seem to understand Steemit - there is no official here - everything is handled by the community. If I'd known you were going to be such a knob about this, I would have just reported you, instead I took the time to answer your Mother's questions and point out what you did wrong. Really don't have time for this childish BS - have a good one.

Im done here. You just skip over everything I said and are trying to make your self look good. You should have never came by my post and acted like some big shot. I was looking for help from people who handle this stuff regularly, not from a noob account like you. You should have left that to someone with real experience and trust in the community. It is obvious what you are trying to do, just fishing for steem. You can say you dont want anyone to give you steem and to give to the real cleaners. That is BS or you would have never made this account and just used your real account.

You can fool some on steem, but I wasnt born yesterday.

Take care. Have fun lol.

If you are done, please be quiet already. You're right, I should of never bothered to help. After all, it is impossible to help people who won't help themselves.

You area a piece of work.

You would enjoy my opinion piece on this matter in today posts in @thedailysteemit

Welcome to the party. Although the bandwidth issue has cut down on the spammed comments :) It has been pleasant to not see a whole bunch of Shallow 4 Shallow.

What about comment self upvoters? Those guys are nasty as well :)

I disagree with the practice, but so long as the comment is on topic, there's nothing that can really be done as it's not comment spam.

Welcome to Steem @copypastewaster I have upvoted and sent you a tip

I am not part of the steemcleaners team. Any flagging that coincides with theirs is incidental.

You will continue receiving flags from me if you insist on repeating the same mistakes you've been making...and harassing/spamming people here and in multiple chat channels. I would suggest that you change course.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)Reveal Comment

I am not in any way affiliated with @Steemcleaners

Perhaps if you were more measured in your Steemit activities you wouldn't have found yourself flagged to timfuktu?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)Reveal Comment

For someone who was just talking about slander and libor, you seem to be spewing an awful lot of it.

I am not sure what has led to all this, but I am aware steemcleaners isn't a "scam" - ICYMI they give out their post rewards to people who report abuse.

If you feel you have been unfairly nuked, there are support groups for that, but you might want to try a little tact and decorum ...

Wooowww This is really very impressive post that is very amazing I really like and happy to see your post is really amazing I just this time saw it is a remarkable congratulations to you I hope your success is always in steemit hopefully can always provide a fun post. ...

Welcome to Steem @copypastewaster I have upvoted and sent you a tip. Check my blogs if you are looking for tips on how to earn more Steem and SBD.

Good luck!

Having recently posted on a 'Steemit for compound interest gainer tip', you will face opposition but I hope you have a positive influence :)

Thanks mate!

I am a little lost re:

Having recently posted on a 'Steemit for compound interest gainer tip"

though ... could you please break it down real simple for me? (I swear I'm not a bot)

Haha sorry, I've not been awake long. Yes, posted about something I've seen recently with regards to using steemit as a compound interest generator: ten upvotes at full power on your own (average) comments can make you a millionnnaire in 7 years, apparently. This approach is unethical to me!

Oh yeah it's a big issue, it's a funny one too though, I disagree with it and don't do it personally, but I see why people who have invested money argue they have the right to use their investment in any way they choose ... but yeah I think comment voting or at least self-voting should be removed all together.

You should check out #project-smackdown we have some goals in common here 😁

Thanks will do!

Welcome to Steemit @copypastewaster!
I'm a bot-helper, and I'm created to help. Congratulations on the registration on Steem - you really like it here! If you like me, make an upvote of my comment and follow me. Your upvote will allow you to give more money to new users, such as you. Let's make Steem better together!
I follow you, and to get more upvote and resteem - follow me!
All the money I earn will be donated to charity.
Steem on!

Pleased to meet you @copypastewaster!

Hi Sam, thanks you were the first human to respond. I'll send you a little present next when I get the rewards from this post if you've been posting original content.

Thank you thank you thank you

I have reported a few posts to steemcleaners before but they seem overwhelmed.

Looking forward to how you can handle the massive influx of spam!

Yeah the link drop thing seems crazy! They do prioritize severe cases though which I think is smart.

I know of an account that needs to be sprayed. Cant wait to see how long it takes.

Did you dm me on discord?

What about the top upvoted comment in my most recent post? Spammy or no?

Someone else put me on to your case yesterday, it seemed the guy was already getting flagged by a bunch of people and maybe even a bot. I will look again though. If you could report whale abuse like this to me anon via discord that would be awesome though bro - can set up a new account if nuked, but it's still a hassle.

Hi @copypastewaster - great initiative. You might want to check out this recent post where a particular Steemian speaks of his trouble with comment spam self voter. https://steemit.com/postartchallenge/@drpuffnstuff/postartchallenge-theme-2-page-dividers-winners-proof-of-payment-no-theme-3-postartchallenge-is-dead

Thanks, will look into. For the safety of both of our accounts though, it is best to report whale abuse anon.

Is this the sort of thing your trying to clean up, I wrote about last week...
https://steemit.com/steemit/@prime-cleric/bots-raping-steemit-via-curation

Hey @prime-cleric, I have no problem with curation bots. People just use them to save time, they can make a bot to auto-upvote accounts they would otherwise be upvoting. I am specifically targeting plagiarism, copypaste and spam.

FYI anyone can use bots to do their voting for them via @steemvoter

thanks for the reply, wasn't sure about that.

Not a problem, you should join up in Team Australia where the Aussies have a @Centerlink bot that upvotes them.

hi Copypastewaster I hope you enjoy your time here, its a great community !! Nice post, Wish you much luck! Cheers! i will follow your account, please follow me .

Hello @copypastewaster. Welcome to Steemit. I am David. I wish you have a happy journey here.

I know a guy who selfvotes comments all the time and does nothing else.... surfyogi is his username....

Will look into it, but if his comments are on topic, will not be able to do anything as it isn't spam.

Edit: Had a look in his profile and though I disagree with upvoting his own comments, he is actually replying thoughtfully to people's posts so it's not spam

It's a bloody curation bot ... seriously mate what are you smoking? I've had more sense from crackheads. @Neoxian is a boss.

It is not a bot 'faking votes' - it is a bot handling the user's up voting as manual curation is overly time consuming. There is nothing wrong with this. Anyone can get autovotes from that bot if they make themselves noticed through quality content.

interesting post , very informative

I hope you are going after image plagiarism and theft too! I keep writing about it, but I am mostly preaching to the converted and to the bots! LOL!

Congratulations @copypastewaster!
Your post was mentioned in my hit parade in the following categories:

  • Comments - Ranked 2 with 85 comments
  • Pending payout - Ranked 4 with $ 66,51

this is a great post. thanks for this great work

Hi there Copypastewaster ,
Welcome to Steemit ! I am @minnowhelp, nice to meet you !

I do check the values of some offers here and hope so to help new steemians. I just started this project !

In my session 1 of testing the value of an @booster upvote I tracked the gains of different users by using this offer - so - for example @mitchiesfoodrace got for an investment of $4.9 and Post Upvote worth $12.2 !

if you want to save money, follow me on follow me on my blog! :)

Hi @minnowhelp perhaps your welcome-bot should upvote the intro posts it comments on? Also all the talk of dollars makes it seem a little spammy

Right on! The community rises against theft and fraud - fighting back.

Love that initiative. Let's give the leeches no quarters.

--ch @globocop

globocop my man!

You are the boss of replies.

I take it you came out on top of those Aliens ;)

Oh I do wear Boss, but I ain't the boss... I think you are the one who rose above all spam and plagiarism... Not an ALIEN concept. 👽

Happy Sunday

-ch @globocop

Welcome and Thank You for being with us!! Following your Blog now

Thanks!

Hello @Copypastewaster its good to see more Steemians around. Have fun in this community. I wish you many followers and new friends :-) Cheers @chrisx

I really like this idea. I presume you will need to bring in some SP to do the heavy lifting.

Question: Are you interested in photography and image copy pasta?

I have made a few posts about it, not exactly recently, so I will go ahead and drop you this link to an old post. The dirty secrets of posting stock images and not paying for them

Meanwhile, since then, I have [ahem] "discussed" image copy-pasta with some folks. Sometimes I come out on top, sometimes... not. My resources as a fairly new member are limited, so I might consider chatting with you about that problem.

The last time I made an effort, I was simply downvoted by the culprit... and offered excuses. (You are clearly smart enough to follow my comment history, so you will probably find out soon enough.)

As long as you get some delegated or incoming SP via a bitcoin transaction, you will be doing great. I will warn you, however, that when I find image plagiarism or copy violations, the violations are agnostic... I don't care if it's Dan Larimer, I will call him out.

I am sure you are a well-respected member of the community. And I hope we meet with my regular account and yours someday. I hope I don't have to switch to an alternate account to call out the copy pastas... but it appears that this is wise in the long run.

Have fun Storming the Castle!

Hey thanks for your comment and enjoyed your post. Will definitely be looking for plagiarism and copypasta in all it's forms. Most people I think do the right thing and only use CC stuff and source it, but there's always a few. Will check out your comments section too ... thanks for the tip

Edit: I didn't realize you posted the Zer0Hedge comment too lol I've upvoted your hidden comments, though I only have 200SP I've leased so far. I've also requested people in Steemcleaners chat upvote those comments - no promises on that front, but you never know :)

Update: Your comments are now unhidden - just reached out to a couple folks on discord XD

Welcome to Steemit ! have fun with it. Followed. Follow me back 😘

Thanks for your diligence. Keeping it clean. 🐓🐓

Congratulations @copypastewaster! You received a personal award!

Happy Birthday! - You are on the Steem blockchain for 2 years!

Do you smoke ice? You're very paranoid. I just tried to help you and you are chucking a full blown e-tantrum. Please seek help before you hurt someone.

No just can tell by your replies and how you want to be big shot. I call people on their bullshit. Not a poser like you. Calling anyone who has a problem or disagreement with you a crack head or asking if they smoke ice etc. Very immature. You obviously a troll just in this for the wrong reasons. You are now muted. Take care little guy.
