New Kid on the Block...chain

Hello world. That's how it starts, right?

As a new member of the Steemit community, I wanted to introduce myself. A digital marketer by trade, with a touch of finance in my distant past, blockchain and cryptocurrencies have been on my radar for a number of years. Ultimately, I dove in head-first mid-2017 and have been following the ins, outs, and forks without a voice until now.

What is Cryptodelphia?
Right now, Cryptodelphia is just a user name but I'm hoping to build it into an active member of the Steemit and larger Crypto communities. Cryptodelphia marries my interest in cryptocurrencies with the town I now call home, Philadelphia. And most importantly it sets the tone for what I really want to do: share.

I want to share my experiences untangling the crypto knot, learning how to navigate wallets, exchanges, airdrops, etc. Why? Because no matter how easy you think it is, it really isn't. I've been on Reddit, gone to meetups, talked to friends and it's apparent that people just need a little more help.

So while I'm no expert, I do think I can pay forward some of the help I've gotten thus far in the cryptocurrency space. And at the very least, I hope to steer a couple of people in the right direction.

Some of the things that I needed help with that may come to light in future posts are:

  • Coinbase and other major exchanges; what's available in the US and who's trustworthy?
  • Saving on fees by using GDAX/Coinbase Pro
  • Using MyEtherWallet and MetaMask
  • Smart Contracts and some of their practical deployments
  • Airdrops - what are they and how to navigate some of the more difficult claims (I'm looking at you LRN)

But on the way, I hope to also pitch in about the other things I'm passionate about: everything from fantasy football to marketing strategy to becoming a father. That's what Steemit's for, right?

Why bother?
Well, it's quite easy: I'm a regular guy and the crypto world needs more regular guys adopting and using the technology that we've all grown to love.

Plus, who doesn't like a good pun in the title of their blog post?

Hello cryptodelphia! Welcome to Steemit! Hope you'll like the community here. As a start, here are 5 tips that we believe will be helpful to you:

  1. Keep your passwords safe: Unlike conventional sites, Steemit has 4 types of passwords. Each offers varying degrees of access to your account, so know where and when to use each of them. Also, make sure to keep them all safe and secure.
  2. Get Steem rewards: When writing a post, you'll have the option to choose how to receive your reward: "Default 50%/50%" or "Power Up 100%". As of this moment, choosing Default 50%/50% is the better option. But this can change over time. Check our post to know more.
  3. Upvote wisely: When upvoting, wait at least 30 minutes after the post is published to maximize your curation reward. Also, make sure not to upvote too much too fast so as not to drain your voting power.
  4. Know your Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power: Steem and Steem Dollars are the 2 main currencies here. Convert and power up more Steem into Steem Power so you can have higher values on your upvotes.
  5. Have Fun and Enjoy!
