Did you check out Lbry for broadcasting your reality series? It would be a perfect match for a decentralization-loving family. It's still in beta, so publishing isn't available yet (I think), but that should be enabled within the next weeks. Definitely worth to keep an eye on.

Like I said, publishing isn't available yet, but it will be pretty soon since they are currently looking for filmmakers, musicians, writers – anyone who produces quality original content and wants to cut out the middleman between them and their audience.
I hope #steemit will make it possible to also embed lbry videos, because it would be way better match than "youtube".
