A Country Boy Found "Home Away From Home" In The Most Livable City | Steem ON!

Hellooo fellow Steemates!

WOW!! Finally got the chance to start with this amazing platform. My experience with steem started a little challenging when I did not receive the passwords to kick-start after a couple of tries, well at least that is history now. Like they said, third time is the charm.

Before I start off blabbering about myself, I would like to thank @DanielDoughty for introducing me to this platform. It just amazed me, how this platform is only a big hit recently although from my point of view, supposed to be one of the hot topics or maybe I'm not IT friendly enough. '=.=

Anyways, here it goes ladies and gentlemen...

I am an International student currently resides in Melbourne just over a year ago. Born in the Pearl Island of Malaysia, called Labuan (some would be more familiar with Borneo, so yeah this island is part of it). Undertaking a new journey into a metropolitan city with diverse culture has been somewhat a wonderful and uplifting experience, but of course, it's not a smooth ride all the way.

Back to studies after so long has been quite an interesting chapter during my first year in Melbourne. It was through education that I have built deep passion in International trade business. What interests me the most is mastering the methods of product research, regulations and most importantly to estimate the product tax value. Ting! There is an opportunity to be a consultant in the International trade business!!! Because most companies would not want to bother the details of such transactions. Now, that’s no wonder why forwarding company makes tons of dollars every day. Being with students from around the globe has also given me the opportunity to broaden my understandings about other countries, especially culture differences. Having said that, living in Melbourne would be able to help you understand quicker through observation and mistakes.

Life of a student

Being an International student in a foreign country I would regard literally as leaving your comfort zone. Ask fellow foreign students and they will share the same problem faced. Loneliness, homesick, adaptability issue, language barriers, these are the few common ones. Through this self-experience is where I start being proactive as a student representative and be a member for an advisory board, with the main agenda to make student's life experience a little less foreign but fun and memorable. Through this pathway, I was given the opportunity to help in tackling international student issues and be a mediator and advocate for international students.

Represented for State and National International Student Conferences

Even get to Wefie with Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham. Minister for Education and Training during a national conference. =) Don't be deceived, no hidden attention here, I still pay the same fees for school. =p

And guess what's next? I was invited to be one of the panelists for International Education Association of Australia with the topic 'Marketing and Recruitment Forum'. I was very impressed with the innovation in this country, but later then I know that education is the Top 5 contribution to the economy of Australia. And in 2016, education itself has contributed almost 30 bill in a year. If this was contributed into Malaysia? It will be classified as a middle east donation, not corruption. LOL

Nevertheless, with all of this happen in 2017, now I am looking forward to what is awaiting in 2018, with the belief that what I did today, I will do better tomorrow or like Albert Einstein said: "You Never Fail Until You Stop Trying".Hope I didn't bore you halfway through the end, well at least I have warned you that I was going to blabber. hehe

A heads up to all of you, I am a generalist, therefore, I'd posted almost everything and anything that I think would be feasible for your fun reading that includes places to visit in Australia (Melbourne mostly), poems (when imagination and inspiration comes shinning through your mind) and of course Fooooooooood!

Alrighty! That's all for now.

Carpe Diem, let's bond and steem on!

Toodles.
Don

Interesting story, welcome to Steemit Don! It must be interesting to have experienced different cultures you have. What are international students biggest challenge?

Thanks a lot! Well, apart from the one I’ve mentioned, I’d say overcoming mental health is one of the hot topics.

Really? Could you expand on this? Stress? Anxiety?

Yeah! Hard to believe. But it was here, that I learn about mental health and importance to acknowledge it. I suppose it’s common for students to experience such due to education pressure and lack of peer to peer support.

That makes perfect sense when you say it like that.

welcome to steemit and great to see you doing well in Aussie !
