Gooooodmorning Steemiiiiiit! Introducing myself :)

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Hi everyone,

My Name is Marcel, I am 31 years old and live the Netherlands. I have been wanting to start a blog for a long time but never found the right platform to do so. Steemit seems very interesting so I guess this moment is as good as any. So here I go :)

In my daily life I run a company, with a friend of mine for about 40 hours a week. We specialize in creating VR, AR and MR experiences. Right now that is mainly in industrial automation, healthcare and property development. I graduated as a 3d game artist and love pretty much any thing related to game development. However, when I graduated, it was hard to get into the industry with the economic recession and all, so we decided to run our own company. And until now we are doing pretty good with some high profile customers.

Besides my own company, I also work 20h a week at an indoor playground for kids. (Netherlands has a mainly cold and rainy climate. It s a beautiful country but it just needs a roof.) There I am a executive staff member. Which, in my case, means if have to make sure the days are running smooth, offline and online marketing are done and the property remains safe, clean and secure. I kept this job after graduating because it has some financial consistency and I like working with young adults.

In the spare time I have left, I exercise a bit. I like running, skating and mounting biking, though we don't really have mountains in holland.. During my weeks I try to do pushups (when no-one is watching) I started this about a year ago with 3 push-ups and right now I do about 100 a day. Not every day though. Sometimes my body needs a rest and sometimes my schedule or day is to hectic. One day I hope to do a 100 at once. Right now my max is about 30, so I still need to grow.

Whenever I find the resources to travel, my girlfriend and I try to explore a new part of the globe. So far I have been to most part of western europe, like Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Monaco, Switzerland, austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Iceland, UK and Luxembourg. I have also been to Greece and Turkey. Outside of Europe I have visited Hong Kong (and Macau), Malawi and South Africa. High on my list are Australia, New zealand, Canada and the less tourist attractive Iran. For the last one I still need to do a lot of convincing to get my girlfriend to come along. One day I hope to have traveled the majority of the world.

Whenever I am traveling, my love for photography plays up again. Somehow I don't feel passionate to make photos in my rainy motherland. Whenever I see mountains and hear a different language I feel inspired to frame every beautiful thing I see. So among my best shot you will mainly find foreign cultures and landscapes. I own a Sony Alpha 57 with a sigma 18-200mm 3.5f lens. Lately I start to see the limitations of my gear so I am thinking about upgrading. The new cameras of Sony are really good, but also really expensive. So maybe a better quality lens will do for now.

The last thing I would like to share with you guy’s for now is my interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Since a couple of years I started to notice that somethings are not right in this world. Rich people are getting richer and somehow not everyone gets a fair shot at life because of the families they were born to. Since Ethereum sparked my interest in blockchain I have been reading alot about it and all the technology it powers. Somehow it feels like blockchain is the way to go for the future. It could give us a better guarantee for a brighter future for all of us, and not just the people fortunate enough to be born into a wealthy family. Well, if it's up to me at least. The same research on blockchain brought me to Steemit so I guess that completes the circle.

Hope to see you all around and let make this blockchain thing work :)

Cheers,

Marcel

Hello and welcome to Steemit! When I was younger, I could do 70 pushups in less than two minutes. I doubt I can still do 40 now though. I don't want my chest muscles to be that big anymore anyway. The older I get, they may start to sag! LOL

Thanks for the quality verification image. A lot of people make images that can easily have been faked. It is important to verify, for this place has a lot of scammers unfortunately. We have ways of getting rid of them though at least!

The economic systems of the world are very similar. Most people can move upward and grow wealthy. They just need to spend less than they make. Most people are in debt their entire adult lives. There's no good reason for it either. Beware of crypto too. It is not a perfect solution.

Take BTC as an example. It is something like 1600 people own 90% of it. That's one hell of a pyramid if you ask me. ;-)

There are a ton of other webpages to help you with Steemit. Here are some of the best for beginners:

https://steemd.com/ (This site is used to keep track of your voting power and other stats. You do not want to run out of voting power, and you only get so much per day. I keep my voting power around 80% for example.)

https://steem.makerwannabe.com/ (This site will tell you who follows you, who unfollows you, and who mutes you. It is great for meeting new people too. I regularly check it to see who has followed me to see if I should follow them back.)

https://steemit.chat/ (This site is the official chat webpage for Steemit. There are Discord channels too, but I usually stick to the official site. Come in to network and meet new friends. You can directly message people there too, so it makes it easier to communicate with your closest friends.)

Oh yeah, there are a lot of bots on here. If you see a cookie cutter reply, especially to your intro post, it is almost certainly a bot. Check the account's reputation. If it is low, I would recommend just ignoring them. Everything is public on Steemit, so you can go look at an account's comments and replies. Are they all the same? It's a bot.

Again, welcome, and I've followed you! If you have any questions about getting started, look me up on the chat site.

Hi Finnian, thanks for the reply, Will look into the links you supplied!

You're very welcome! Definitely ask if you have any questions. I'd be glad to help. For some reason my original attempt to follow you didn't work. I am following you now for sure though.

I mentioned you in a post of mine by the way. Please check it out when you get a chance.

I did, thx for the exposure, I also left you a comment :)

Welcome to Steemit. Looks like it's just the place for you. Keep posting good stuff and connect with people.

Will do, Thanks!

Welcome to Steemit! Looking forward to seeing your posts.

Thank you!

Welcome @dutchlife, I really enjoyed your introduction, and concerning trip to Iran that's my country in the bucket list also, totally supporting your wish for traveling there. Nice to see more creative travelers around here.

Howdy @dutchlife? Welcome to steemit :]
