*** Follow me on my journey as I struggle to make my dreams since 7 become a reality in Japan***
-Dylan(20 yrs old)

Quick Summary Of Journey/Footnotes(Intro):

-7 years old:
Raised in small Canadian town feel perspective largely widened after becoming infatuated with Japan. NAFTA and global competitiveness makes Japanese products harder to find during this time period. I dreamt of a day products from all around the world flourish in Canada widening perspectives and bringing innovation to the next level. (no japan no instant noodles/no japan no Walkman no inspiration for the later to become Ipod)

-14 years old :
I began saving money and studying intensively(no Japanese classes available at school and had to be ready if I wanted to enter as an actual student to Japanese university)

-16 years old :
launches wood-shavings resale company.
(to get some savings together for the big move to Japan had launched several other companies at 11,13,14 years old all did not do so well)

-18 years old:
Left the small Canadian town to move to Tokyo. I entered exam hell to enter Japanese university.(being raised in Canada and no education In Japanese history, geography and all other subjects 19 hr+ days of studying in very small room. Quite badly destroyed health that year, gained 45 pounds but managed to pull through and get accepted and gladly health is back to normal now)
-19 years old:
I became 1 of first North Americans to enter Chuo University.

-20 years old:
After beginning to take on student debt luckily earned fully paid scholarship sponsored by Japanese manufacturing company.
As of today I am far from where I want to be and am working everyday to become someone who 7 year old me could have looked up to.

FULL INTRO:
Hi my name is Dylan. I’m 20 years old. I was born and raised in Canada but during my transition into adulthood(at 18 years old) I had moved to Japan.
I will be posting frequently about my journey as I grind each and every day towards once again showing the world the charm of Japan.
Of course moving to Japan culture shock was one thing, but the extremely long days and loneliness often tested my will, however there is not a day I have regretted the decision to make the leap.
I’m just as passionate as the 7 year old kid who ran around with a picture book of Japan to anywhere he went LOL .
Glad to now be a member of steemit. Nice to meet you all!

Hey Dylan! That's an amazing story, and a really cool animated video. Did you create that yourself? If so, you are an incredible animator!!

Welcome to Steem! We're glad to have you here!

I am a Steem curator, and creator of the series "The Fresh 5" where I pick five new Steemians to share with my followers that they should know about. I have selected you as one of my five for today. Your post has been featured in my post you can find here: The Fresh 5.

Welcome to Steemit. I think you’ll find it can really supplement everything you’re already doing here quite well.

I’d recommend reposting that video and introducing yourself, or just the video, in Japanese and labeling it with the tag #japanese so that you can begin making contacts with the Japanese community.

I think you’ll find your identity crisis really developed in another year or two when you visit home, or later when you have kids in Japan.

Thank you this is hugely helpful !
I thought about reposting it in Japanese but was very worried people would think I'm just recycling content.
I will be sure to post in Japanese as well!
For sure! I currently am visiting home and feel I guess what you could call "reverse culture-shock" .
Thanks for the advice! Much Appreciated!
-Dylan

I’ve found reverse culture shock to be much bigger than culture shock in itself, at least when dealing with Japan.

Many people make two posts, one in each language. I’ve never seen anyone complain about it, and it looks much neater. Sometimes having two languages on one page looks really messy.

And when it’s your own content, you can definitely use it as you want. If readers don’t like it, they will let you know, either by not voting, by downvoting, or by leaving you comments.

Hello and welcome @dylansjourney! Thank you for a concise and informative introduction post! I hope you'll find Steemit friendly and rewarding! I find it fascinating that you decided to move to Japan and as a fellow Japan fan I'm very happy you'll be posting about the Japanese society and culture. I'm sure your insight will be very interesting. You know, I'm from Poland and we've got a very well known Youtuber called Krzysztof Gonciarz, who also moved to Japan and I enjoy watching his films. You did amazing job on the film, and your use of Japanese is mind-blowing (I learnt Japanese a bit and love this language). I'll follow you to not miss anything! I wish you success on Steemit, all the best, Klaudia :)

Hello Klaudia.
Im glad to hear there are others who share a love for Japan!

Thank you! I will try my best to contribute the most informative and helpful information I possibly can!

I will be sure to check him out as well! Your English is absolutely amazing the fact you know both English and some Japanese is quite the achievement. 😄

I really do appreciate the kind words. The animation took quite a bit of time and effort so it is nice to hear the positive feedback.
I followed you as well look forward to seeing more from you!
-Dylan
