Who is @dysprosium- or "What's in a name?"

it is time to introduce myself: I am a young plant scientist, currently doing a PhD in biochemistry. As my profile says, I am truly a plant freak as I love everything about them. From dry classification, appearance, behaviour to metabolites and biochemical pathways. Furthermore I enjoy technology a lot, especially building stuff! Furthermore I am a Gridcoin enthusiast (cryptocurrency that „mines“ through helping science) and computer geek. Besides all this, as contrast, I like to involve myself in art, music and especially theatre. All the world‘s a stage!

After a good month on steemit, I have to say I am still fascinated - by the community, the system, the plattform! While some of the continiously spawning content is of a lesser quality than one would desire, much of it provides decent quality in research and writing and from time to time one can find those rare gems.   
Those rare gems that leave you with a sense of awe, appreciation and gratitude that this particular user got the possibility to share even that one story, picture, advise or artwork, that without steem would maybe have never seen the light of day. Besides its one-of-a-kind system to reward authors and curators alike for their provided content, steemit empowers those that are often overlooked, or those, who can not or want not to spend hours and hours to build a blog, collecting followers.  You can write a single post you always wanted to write, share what you wanted to share, and have it seen by a welcoming and generous community. While a great exposure in many cases feels quite great, even lesser views but maybe a inspiring chat about your story creates a feeling of appreciation. Empowerment to those who often stay behind, those thinkers, who would never try to force an opinion on you but overjoyously share when asked. For me, the money aspect is a ingenious way for those who are trying to make a living from creating quality content, or those curating and helping the plattform to provide high content quality.   
Nevertheless, bearing everything I like about those „rare gems“ I mentioned in mind, there are a few things that I would like to pledge, to make my steemit-journey useful and beneficial for others as well as myself:

I will research and prepare my content to my best ability.
I will not tolerate abusive behaviour nor will I engage in it.   
I will try to create in a way that benefits and delights.   

With this in mind, I am looking forward to a wonderful time on steemit!

PS.: I already posted a project proposal to breed plants at home, in a distributed manner. With many people joining, we could split the work, everybody grows just a few plants, but in the end we might end up with a new variety! Dysprosium 

Hallo liebe Steemit-Community, 

Es wird Zeit dass ich mich vorstelle: Ich bin angehender Pflanzenwissenschaftler, gerade am promovieren. Wie mein Profil auch sagt bin ich Pflanzenenthusiast; ich mag alles von trockener Klassifikation über Aussehen und Verhalten der Pflanzen, bis hin zu Inhaltsstoffen und biochemischen Stoffwechselwegen. Zudem liebe ich alles was mit Technik zu tun hat, am liebsten ist es mir selbst etwas zu bauen! Auch Cryptowährungen sind ein Hobby von mir, vor allem Gridcoin, eine Währung, die über Berechnungen für wissenschaftliche Projekte „gemined“ wird, statt leeren Hashs. Als Kontrast interessiere ich mich für Kunst (deutsche Romantik à la Caspar David Friedrich), Musik und vor allem Theater!
 

Das oben gezeigte Bild ist von dem Ort an dem ich iom Moment am meisten Zeit verbringe – dem Labor.
Zuerst: Da ich Beiträge wechselnd in Deutsch oder Englisch schreibe, kann es sein dass die jeweilige Übersetzung etwas anders ist als eine direkte Übersetzung wäre. Da ich in unterschiedlichen Sprachen verschieden denke und ein anderes Sprachgefühl besitze, würde eine direkte Übersetzung dem Ganzen nicht gerecht, daher wundert euch nicht, wenn die verschieden Sprachen eine leicht unterschiedliche Struktur besitzen!
 

Seit ich (vor ca. einem Monat) auf Steemit gestossen bin, habe ich sehr viele positive Erfahrungen gemacht. Die Community ist wunderbar, und der immerneue Inhalt oft atmeberaubend. Sicherlich nicht jeder Beitrag, aber ab und an findet man versteckte Juwelen, die inhaltlich und sprachlich brillieren. Zudem finde ich wunderbar dass jene Leute ermutigt werden, die sonst eventuell ungehört blieben. Nicht jeder hat Zeit und Muße mühsam einen Blog aufzubauen nur weil man gerne das ein oder andere sagen möchte. Steemit erleichtert dies immens, und so bekommen auch die oft Übersehenen Möglichkeit und Stimme. Vielen Dank, Steemit!
Doch damit das bereits hohe Maß an Qualität von mir erreicht und gewahrt werden kann, habe ich mir drei Dinge vorgenommen:
 

Ich werde ausschließlich wohlrecherchierte und gut aufbereitete Inhalte veröffentlichen.   
Ich werde beleidigendes Verhalten weder tolerieren noch ausüben.
Ich werde versuchen meine Inhalte so zu gestalten, dass sie nützlich und angenehm sind.
 
Und damit sollte es für uns alle eine tolle Erfahrung werden!
 

PS.: Ich habe bereits ein Projekt gestartet, das noch Teilnehmer sucht: Gemeinsam eine neuen Gemüsesorte züchten, verteilt, von Zuhause aus! Gemeinsam hat jeder wenig Arbeit und ihr bekommt eine Einführung in Pflanzenzüchtung von mir.
