Hi all! My name is Elizabeth Spiers and I run a research and analytics firm in New York that specializes in virtual reality, but that's a fairly recent development. For most of my career I've worked in digital media and journalism as a writer, editor and launcher of new editorial properties, the most notorious of which is currently being sued into oblivion by a former professional wrestler. I left my job as the founding editor of Gawker in 2003, well before it was covering the sex lives of professional wrestlers or well-known Silicon Valley billionaires--my posts weren't nearly as salacious--but went on to launch another blog network (Breaking Media, which owns Dealbreaker, AboveTheLaw, and Fashionista) and later was the editor in chief of The New York Observer, which is owned by the son in law of the Presidential candidate currently backed by the Silicon Valley billionaire currently suing the owner of Gawker. In between all of those things I launched new sites for media companies and brands, wrote for various journalistic outlets (Fortune, FastCompany, etc) and on my personal blog. I live in Brooklyn, enjoy dark satirical fiction, spicy food, Spanish wine, and I Instagram my kid far more than necessary.
I'm here because I'm interested in how models like Steem can work for writers and maybe even publishers. I also just launched a new virtual reality publication on Medium called ThereIsOnlyR, and might experiment with cross posting features here if no one objects. (I assume that if this is a wildly inappropriate use of Steem that someone will quickly tell me, but I don't see anything in the FAQ that would indicate that it is.)
I also assume there's probably a bit of a VR community here, so I look forward to reading.
