Hello Fellows, how are you doing?
My name is Flying Unicorn, nice to meet you.
( this image is dedicated to all funny things we can find on the internet )
How i discovered steemit:
It feels great and tingly to be back to blogging, after not having a blog for over... a very long time ( i won't tell you it has been more than ten years ) i must say, it feels refreshing.
I was very happy when i first learnt about STEEM, being honest, not so happy when i first heard about it, because it was something like:
Friend: Have you seen STEEM, it went up 100% in value?
Me: Errr...nope
After this crazy market rally i decided to have a look at it and was very excited about the platform, to be honest i had no good enough idea to write about and just kept this on the back of my mind.
A little ( not so little ) bit of history:
When i was young i had a saving account where i was saving part of my salary, after a few years i had enough money to stop working and have a pretty long holiday, but i wanted more than that.
I always wanted more of everything,.
So i decided it would be a good idea to invest my money, coincidentally days later a friend introduced me another friend whom was a "Broker", He worked "buying and selling stocks" for "private investors" and said he would be able to advise me.
At the time i didn't understand much so I just followed his advices, on the first couple of months i earned enough money so it would almost add up to a whole salary, i trusted him.
It all felt magical, i wasn't on an office for the whole week and still would be able to withdrawal some extra money for the next month.
Sure enough this easy dream life wouldn't last long, after gaining my trust the "advisor" advised me to risk more in order to earn even more, i took his advice and only 2 days the market went totally against us and almost blew my whole account.
I was devastated, i became ill. I saw a big chunk of all my savings disappearing from one day to the other.
In short: things got worst.. i end up changing my "advisor" ( the first one was fired ) which helped a little bit, but not enough to heal the enormous scarf, i had to go back to work much quicker than i had planned with that bitter taste in my mouth.
I tasted the feeling of the magical dream, of making your money work for you and pay your bills, even if just for a couple of months, i knew i liked it and one day i would go back to it.
At the time i tried to explain my advisor that i would prefer using some sort of logical strategy instead of reading the news - he loved to read the news for me - and i simply didn't have genuine interest in knowing about an oil company or whatever other stock he was trying to sell.
Unfortunately i didn't the right mindset to learn how to trade by myself, but i knew that being a programmer would give me extra odds ( and i was one! ) and with the right information in hands I would be able to trade better than the self proclaimed "advisors" whom wear suits and work for "professional companies".
After many years out of the markets, i started been keen on having bitcoins and i wasn't even thought about trading them! I got some and some.. and...
One day by accident, "BINGO!", i discovered there was actually many currencies and a few exchanges and a whole new market to be explored where most of the companies are technology related, the market runs 24/7 and those exchanges are different....
No "advisors"??? More often than not they have a public API !
No silly sign up forms and crazy fees?
- Great, i'm sold. Take my money.
Dear market, it's nice to be back.
That's how i felt. Since that event i started following coin prices on coinmarketcap.com installing apps on my phone, studying Technical Analysis, algorithmic trading and whatnot..
It felt great, i knew there was a new ocean in front of me, waiting me to dive deep and.... ooooh Dear, how deep i dived!! Weeks and weeks barely going out, sleepless nights reading and reading on my bad or backtesting strategies in front of my screen, i stopped counting.
After a few seasons and battles, against the psychology of trading, against technicalities of algorithmic trading, against juggling your regular work with this new dreamy adventure, i survived, but it wasn't easy and to be honest not always great.
In short: I didn't look good and i didn't have much sex, but hey, look at me now!
( this was supposed to be a motivational phrase. #failed ).
Why i decided to come here and.... write:
The material i found online today was almost always written by or to highly educated people generally for old software. Smart people generally write in a way an average person can't understand ( you know all those crazy formulas that you don't even know where to start ) and many times publishing the content in less than main-stream places, therefore "hiding" a lot of the rather simple information from "regular people".
Another reason is the fact i would like to have found a nice blog with relevant trading and technical analysis knowledge when i first started trading, without all the boring things around it, the crazy new feeds, photos of cars and nude girls and all that. I believe hat could have helped manage better my first account and be here 10 years later harvesting good profits.
I'll try to be that guy, the guy i would like to have found when i started trading. The approachable trading nerd that is willing to have a conversation and never even owned a suit.
What i'll be writing about:
I'll be writing about how to trade markets, specifically crypto currencies, but the content can be applied to many different markets i believe.
The idea is to help traders to learn about programming and programmers to learn about trading hopefully.
Since programmers generally don't know anything about markets and traders don't know much about programming i'll be going through very basic concepts, so hopefully even someone without trading and coding experience will be able to learn a bit about both subjects.
The goal is to share content that will make You able to consistently profit from the markets, maybe even write your own Automated Trading Strategy and realise all your dreams due to your early retirement!
Okay, Let's get real: there is a big chance you might lose all your money as well ;")
Ha!
My job is to guide you before that actually happens so hopefully you won't get as burnt as i got when i was your age ;")
I know it sounds a bit silly, but i got so intricate by this subject ( trading and automated trading from a no-newspaper kind of person ) and couldn't find much around so i believe there is much to be written about, there is a bright future in frony of you and surely, there is money to be made.
At the moment i found no specific meetup groups and anything like that, so i believe there is a community yet to be built, time will tell.
Dear Markets, We're back and We are here to stay
( That's what my robots said to the market )
What would you like to know more about?
- Do you have experience trading crypto currencies on online exchanges such as poloniex.com , 1broker.com or simplefx.com ?
- Have you ever thought about using programming skills to manage your money and profit for you?
- You always wanted to learn Technical Analysis but didn't know where to start?
- Did you know you can write, backtest and rent automated stratagies online ? Platforms such as cryptotrader.org or quantopian.com can literally change your life!
- Have you heard about MetaTrader or NinjaTrader ?
- You want to play with a demo account but still don't know about simplefx.com ?
I'll be writing about all this jazz, including algorithmic trading tutorials spiced up with great, high class, boring trading strategies videos ( and articles ) !
You will never be the same again, trust me, when you are a algorithm trader you become the hottest person ever! ( i'm lying ).
