My 'introduceyourself' post and a little about my life and travels (and my nephew)

in introduceyourself •  8 years ago

Hello Steemers,

I'm Fred and this is my Introduceyourself post. There’s a bit in the video, some at https://www.facebook.com/ahobosdiary/ and here’s a little bit about my life.

I used to drive trucks but about 2yrs ago I quit. I was tired of working for a living. I hopped on my motorcycle and spent a few months riding around the US. Then I hiked some of the Appalachian Trail, hitchhiked across the country and basically… I just have fun. I have a life now.

I now get to see what I was only able to look at before.

And I’m looking forward to sharing my stories here on Steemit.com with you.

Talking about myself isn’t really something I enjoy doing but I’ll list a few likes and dislikes here for starters;

Likes:

  • Travel because I have to go
  • Ferrets because they’re ferrets
  • Animals because humans basically suck
  • Kids (when I can give them back)
  • Motorcycles and bicycles (but I’ll drive anything with wheels or tracks and even wings if you let me)
  • Food but it’s gotta be good
  • Sex because who doesn’t like sex
  • 420 because… “really? Do I have to add to this one!”
  • Writing (see dislikes)

Dislikes

  • Writing (see likes) but someone’s gotta do it
  • Anything government (because they can’t even get their own shit together)
  • People who can work but choose the welfare road (Yeah… I got a big dislike for this one)
  • Alcohol because it’s just nasty and every time I drink it, I end up in Mexico with a new wife and six children and know none of their names.

But we all have our vices.

Of course there’s more, but those are the ones that popped up at 7 am. I’m not a morning person and my nephew (age 5) just showed up and now I have to watch him (torment me).

Anyway, here’s a few pics from my trips and I hope to see you on the road...

I hope so. I know there's a wysiwyg editor but my html is a little rusty.

Welcome to Steem @fredacker I have upvoted and sent you a tip

Welcome to Steemit. "my nephew is banging a penny against his elephant..." not sure if that is a euphemism, but I see what you mean about "giving them back." Lol.

No... he really was banging a penny against his elephant (plastic) and he wasn't going to quit until I paid him some attention.

Welcome to Steemit. I believe you will enjoy your experience in our community. Feel free to make friends and explore. Much love!
George.

Hey! Welcome to Steemit. Loved the post. Looking forward to more content! Hope you have a good time.

Heyhey! I can see that this is a recent account so I wanted to make this post. Here's an upvote from me and see you in your next post!
As a newcomer to steemit, it's not easy getting those big upvotes so you could give @MinnowPowerUp a go. This service lets you earn up to 30% more steem power than just powering up! It's a subscription based daily upvote bot that draws its power from a delegation pool. I compiled this post to explain the system in more depth and share my own experience in earning wupvotes for over $1 a day.

Welcome and thanks for the verification video! I used to have a KLR650, but it was sold. I'm eyeing a TW200 instead now. The bike needs to be shorter than the KLR, so my wife or son could ride it in an emergency.

When you mentioned having more "stuff," I couldn't help but think of George Carlin's skit about "stuff." You've seen that, right? It's great. Congratulations on finding a better path in life and losing all the weight.

Your intro post is one of the best I've ever seen, so I gave you a 100% upvote. Now I'll close this reply with the usual information I share with promising new Steemians.

There are a ton of other webpages to help you with Steemit. Here are some of the best for beginners:

https://steemd.com/ (This site is used to keep track of your voting power and other stats. You do not want to run out of voting power, and you only get so much per day. I keep my voting power around 80% for example.)

https://steem.makerwannabe.com/ (This site will tell you who follows you, who unfollows you, and who mutes you. It is great for meeting new people too. I regularly check it to see who has followed me to see if I should follow them back.)

https://steemit.chat/ (This site is the official chat webpage for Steemit. There are Discord channels too, but I usually stick to the official site. Come in to network and meet new friends. You can directly message people there too, so it makes it easier to communicate with your closest friends.)

Oh yeah, there are a lot of bots on here. If you see a cookie cutter reply, especially to your intro post, it is almost certainly a bot. Check the account's reputation. If it is low, I would recommend just ignoring them. Everything is public on Steemit, so you can go look at an account's comments and replies. Are they all the same? It's a bot.

Adding photos to your account as a new Steemian may be confusing at first too. The easiest way it to click to "Submit a Story." Once in there, use the built in Steemit tool to upload an image from your computer. Below the posting window, you will see "Insert images by dragging & dropping, pasting from the clipboard, or by selecting them." Click on the blue text. Once the image is uploaded, you can copy and paste the link into your account settings.

Verifying your identity is very important because it will get you more support and people will trust you more. The best way to verify is to link back to your Steemit account by using another public social media account. For example, I posted my Steemit articles from here through my Twitter account. Another person posted their Steemit information on their Facebook account. Some people will even post a video of themselves writing out their account information since that cannot be Photoshopped. The more famous a person is or the more valuable their content is, the more important it is that they verify. If a new account falls within those two categories and fails to verify, it may get blacklisted.

Again, welcome, and I've followed you! If you have any questions about getting started, look me up on the chat site.

Finnian you're an awesome fella! And your comment couldn't be better timed. I'm actually figuring all this SteemIt out (and finding it much to my liking). I knew about the bots (nasty lil devils) but didn't know about the "You do not want to run out of voting power, and you only get so much per day. "

This would seem a VERY important thing to know!!!!

The TW is a cool little machine but so is the wr250r (fast :0) but honestly, just as long as it's on 2 wheels I'm gonna get a grin out of it.

And as far as George Carlin...

I would have preferred him as a US president vs. any of the morons we've had since Washington!

Yeah, thanks to my dad, I grew up riding dirt bikes. The first and smallest one he had for us was a 90 Kawasaki. Man, I loved that thing. One of my siblings still has it too!

Agreed Carlin wise, but then he wouldn't want the job. ;-) I like Kokesh's plan. He's running for "not for president" with the plan, if elected, to immediately disband the federal government. haha

Well? 420 problems wouldn't be a problem anymore! There's some good in everything :0)

Ugh, all the injustice done just over drugs is appalling. It's depressing to think about it.

I don't think about it for that reason. I'd rather wander in the woods with my pack and listen to what nature (or maybe some loud pipes) have to say to me.

That's why I love SteemIt. I've been looking more and more into this wonderful platform. It's a way for anyone to start their own business (even while working their day job) without money.

And then there's the crytocurrency thing (which I wish I'd stayed in when BTC first started!)

But damn... You'd best have your shit together when it comes to keeping it all secured.
