Hello we are the Gangpank HQ Collective and we have decided to take the next step in our blockchain exploration and decided to get a Steemit account. It's been amazing watching all the growth and new amazing systems being developed here. We where also drawn by the amazing communities build here already. We are a technology hackerspace that loves the internet and all the technology connected to it and figured it would be good for us to start sharing here. We have done the old school blog thing and have been hearing about steemit from a ton of members at our locations. We decided this was going to be a powerful tool in our community for building a future that people can really see results from. We will be promoting anything and all Gangplank here on the steemit and doing spotlights on all the people that come threw the doors looking to be dangerous. Anyone can come down to gangplank with an idea and work to make it a reality and everything we have is free to use. All we ask is that you keep it nice and play well with others. It's going to be amazing to see how this grows, we hope to use this to develop projects we have in the community and are really pushing our crew of developers to get into the mix with the API. Members of our community started this for us. We started 10 years ago small and we look forward to growing BIG with you. The very fabric of Gangplank is community and sharing so it's nice to meet you guys!
Who are we?
Gangplank is a place for creators. When diverse backgrounds and ideas collide, those moments provide the necessary fuel to innovate. Gangplank provides the infrastructure, both physical and social, for this to happen. We serve as a place for people to explore their creativity, then challenge them to build their ideas into a viable startup – forging a vibrant economy in the process.
Gangplank is more than coworking. We believe that the creative class should focus on collaboration over competition, and that ideas should be shared freely. Our open workspace reflects that. There are no physical or cultural barriers to sharing your ideas, your questions and your passions. We believe that small businesses, micro-businesses, and freelancers, bridged together in common cause, will be the core of this revolution.
Gangplank is about collaboration. We connect creators with each other and with the larger community. We are a community that embraces having fun at work as well as collaborating with others. We provide both a place to work and an event venue. However, it isn’t about the building. It is about the community. We provide the infrastructure. A place to connect. A place to build authentic relationships. A place to learn and a place to teach. A place to share ideas, experience, and knowledge. What makes Gangplank unique is that we are run off social capital. This means that every member of our community contributes to make Gangplank what it is. We do not charge a monetary fee, but rather ask that you give back through time, talent, and relationships. Gangplankers give back both by engaging the person at the desk next to them and by engaging in their city. Gangplankers give MORE than money. Gangplankers disrupt the status quo and create better communities. Still not sure what Gangplank is? Gangplank means something a little different to each of us. We have an entire website devoted to videos of Gangplankers sharing what it means to them.
Our Main Goals!
The Movement
Gangplank is a COMMUNITY. We aren't just a free coworking space. We are about more than shared space. We are about SHARED VISION.
The Place
We are a collaborative WORKSPACE. We have EVENT and MEETING SPACE available as well as drop in workspace.
The Businesses
Gangplank is a place to DO business, LEARN from other entrepreneurs, and GROW your business.
Gangplank Manifesto
We are a group of connected individuals and small businesses creating an economy of innovation and creativity. We envision a new economic engine comprised of collaboration and community, in contrast to silos and secrecy.
We have the talent. We just need to work together. Different environments need to overlap, to connect and to interact in order to transform our culture. In order to create a sustainable community based on trust, we value:
collaboration over competition
community over agendas
participation over observation
doing over saying
friendship over formality
boldness over assurance
learning over expertise
people over personalities
This new economy cannot thrive without engaging the larger business, creative, entrepreneurial, governmental, and technical communities together.
We believe that innovation breeds innovation. We will transform our culture into one supportive of the entrepreneurial spirit, of risk taking, of pioneering into the unknown territories as the founders of our municipalities once did. This requires education, entrepreneurship and creative workspaces.
We are Gangplank.
Our History
Gangplank was born from a series of lunch meetings, where tech and marketing startup CEOs would talk over their issues and support one another. Members found during every meeting, someone would bring up moving their business out of the Phoenix area due to a lack of capital, talent, or the connections required to bring a product to market. To help combat these issues, Derek Neighbors and Jade Meskill began inviting their friend’s companies to come work out of their space, sustaining support and collaboration beyond the monthly lunch meetings into every day business.
From there, afternoon Brownbag presentations were created to share advice and information relevant to small business. And for the night owls, Hacknight was formed to work on side projects and learn new skills.
Gangplank moved into their current location in downtown Chandler in 2010, simultaneously evolving into a larger space and forging partnership with the city to deepen engagement between citizens and government at a local level.
Word-of-mouth is still the biggest traffic source, with personal referrals amounting to more than 70% of our drop-in population. The Gangplank model is working, growing, and currently being adopted throughout the Sun Corridor and beyond.

Gangplank Values
The Gangplank Manifesto is an expression of our core values. While powerful, there are always questions about the “Gangplank Way” and how we use those values in practice.
Events
Money
Agreements for Use of Space
Always assume good intent.
Always clean up after yourself.
Leave a space as good or better than you found it (pay it forward).
If you see a problem, you own it.
Be DANGEROUS. Don’t be a douche bag.
Always lick unloved doors.
Common Space Agreements
No personal stuff left overnight in common space.
The individual who reserves the space is ultimately responsible that the space is clean afterwards.
We resolve issues using the Gangplank manifesto and core commitments.
Key Holder Agreement
Responsible for the safety, function, and security of the space while in the facility.
If it is during normal business hours, the expectation is that you will have the space open.
Resident Agreement
In order to create an agile space:
Desks are standardized and community property.
Desks should be clean at the end of daily use.
Desks should be functional for others to use when you are not present.
Desks should be easily movable by others.
Desks and desk placement are not permanent. Desk moves are common.
