Hola Steemit,
Namaste Everyone
I'm Jorge, a traveler on a journey of self awareness, enlightenment, consciousness expansion, and generally trying to figure out what the heck life is all about. A good friend told me about steemit, and suggested I check it out, probably because I'm such a computer nerd.
I'm currently hanging my hat on the beautiful island of St Thomas in the Caribbean.
This is my daily view from the deck, with Megans Bay in the foreground, and BVI on the right in the distance.
Looking back, I undoubtably should have listened to my friend in Vilcabamba and stayed there, but I didn't listen, cough, and thinking about the possible exciting travel adventures awaiting on a beautiful tropical island, accepted my daughters eager invitation to come on down, or rather, come on up, and help out with her two kids, all expenses paid, just a little babysitting, and I'd have my own room. What a deal, little did I know I was about to walk into a nanny trap! Arrrg!
I've been I now have a whole new appreciation for anyone who works as nanny. The months have passed quickly, in a tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeping pace fashion, with interludes of interesting drama right out of pop culture thrown in for good measure. I'm very grateful to have had this wonderful opportunity to get to know these youngsters better. But all things pass, and it feels like my time here is growing short, I grow more homesick for Ecuador by the day, and my feet are itching to be moving on.
A little about my past ..
Once upon a time I was a Sun System Administrator / Network Engineer working for the Los Alamos National Laboratory. I retired early when the lab contract changed from the University of California at Berkley to Bechtel. I'd worked more than 20 years on a variety of control system projects involving a linear accelerator. I was hired to assist with the computer control system of a proton storage ring much like CERN. I had the great privilege of working with many fine minds, such as my first supervisor, who had been involved in building one of the world's first digital computers called MANIAC. Due to the close collaboration between world laboratories doing similar accelerator R&D, I also worked with some of the very first internet's email and web servers.
I've also been a karate instructor, pilot, and a coxswain in the Coast Guard.
Oh and last but not least I'm a Father and a Grandfather ..
I've got many pictures and stories of my travels to share, as well as some thoughts and ideas about our current reality. These are very interesting times indeed.
