Hello Steemit.
Welcome to my first post here of which I hope will be many making up a series of articles based around the cryptocurrency world. Despite the name, not all posts will be in regards to trading. Some will cover news on cryptos in general, some will cover hot new coins or not so hot coins. I will also be discussing exchanges and blockchain technology advancements in general and many topics which I hope to expand further on at a later date.
I am a 20-something year old from the UK who first heard of cryptocurrency back in 2011 and thought nothing would come of it. I had often considered the idea of decentralized currency myself beforehand and assumed nothing could ever truly happen with regards to the legitimacy of it, so I moved on and forgot all about it. Fast forward to 2014 and the first time I hear people around me discussing it too as part of it's usage on the DarkWeb and everything you could buy with this mysterious Bitcoin. I had of course heard of it before so my interest was peaked, but at the time I didn't need to buy any assassins or firearms so decided £350~ for just a single one of these coins was a redundant purchase. Fast forward again to November 2017 when I decided enough was enough and I needed to be involved (yes I am not a veteran, but in 3-5 years time when mass adoption can finally said to be achieved I know I'll still be considered one of the earlier adopters). What it was that truly enticed me towards to crypto was the genuine application of the blockchain and the rise of the altcoins, which make up a very large portion of my portfolio.
I missed the BTC rise, I missed the ETH rise (though I am in pre $1000), but I will not miss the next one, or the next three, or the next ten because this movement will continue, the power will return to our hands, we will control our technology, our information and our currency. I truly believe this as much today as I did back in 2011 and well before that when I first thought "should I invest in this?"
We all know what the right answer to that was. So if you, like myself in 7 years ago are asking this question, quite simply the answer is yes, 100% the answer is yes.
So why Steemit? Simple. I have always liked to compile my thoughts on things I am passionate about, but they don't always tend to make money in my head. I think Steemit is a fantastic platform for people like myself to come and learn from the community, an idea so intrinsically attached to the cryptocurrency world, as well as try to give something back. Hence my decision to right this series of articles. I at this point have no idea of how often I will be updating this as with my "real life job" and my time trading and real life commitments I do not have much time left. What I do know is that what time I do have left I will be spending here trying to help the community, so please feel free to help me by upvoting when you can and if that's too much at least reading, commenting and supporting me in my mission to help support you.
I hope this journey takes us all to the top.

Hi HJB(?) .. Great first post. It seems we have a lot in common with regards to how we got into crypto and what we intend on doing here on the Steemit platform. I'm finding it hard to find people here who aren't exclusively looking to make a quick buck. Following in the hopes of learning from you in the same way I hope to help others learn from my own experiences =)

Thank you very much. I'm sure we can help each other and hopefully other people can too. That's what this community should be about. Let's take back everything.

Most certainly. I'm working on my next blogpost right now =) It's exciting to be part of something that is growing the way Steemit is. And it's great to have a place to record my thoughts and know that there are people actually interested in what I have to say.

Steemit will only continue to grow. It's still in it's beta stage and is already a great usable platform. You have a follow from me, so I look forward to it brother.
