Hey there, I'm new here...Allow me to introduce myself

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Hey Steemers, I am Honeysim; a proud Jamaican.

Welcome to MY WORLD!!

IMG-20180330-WA0016 bright (1).jpg

“Alrite, mek wi jump rite eena it an ave a likkle fun nuh”
(Alright, let’s get right into it and have some fun)

(

Who is Honeysim?

My name is Michelle Simpson. I was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica but currently residing in the Land of the Rising Sun - Japan. I do not speak Japanese but I am presently learning the language along with the culture of this beautiful country. What do I do in Japan you ask? I am an English teacher and thus far I am loving it. Within me lies a great love for children and this love was the starting point of my passion for teaching. Back home, I was also a teacher but I wanted to spread my wings and delve into something new, so here I am!

Why am I here?

Steemit was recommended to me by a friend. After doing my research on Steemit and gaining a fair understanding of it, I decided to join this wonderful community. Plus, as a bonus, I will be able to learn about cryptocurrency; how awesome is that!

Although I am new to blogging, I am happy to have learned about Steemit and am excited to start my blog. Steemit is a channel through which I can express myself, get constructive feedback, meet new people, as well as, vicariously share my experiences with others.

I think Steemit is a great “podium” to share one's content as it encourages positivity, which the world needs more of. From what I can tell, there is much that can be learned and discussed from the content shared by Steemers. I am looking forward to the lessons and discussions to be had.

How will I add value?

My posts on Steemit will incorporate creative writing (poetry, short stories, diary entries), travel experiences, food and other topics that I think worthy of sharing; the possibilities are just endless so watch out as my fingers take control. I also do a bit of "amateur smartphone photography." I am not sure though how I explain my love of taking photographs whilst explaining my love of being in front of the camera; crazy, I know. My family and friends call me "picture girl" as I love taking photographs. Inspite of the fact that I am a newbie to photography, I hope to one day purchase my first DSLR. Your recommendations on DSLR's for beginners are welcomed. (sidenote: Nikon or Canon, what say you? lol)

Some more fun facts about me:

  • My greatest motivation is my son.
  • I enjoy writing and just being creative in general.
  • I am a “foodie” (lover of food) but I, unfortunately, have to limit what I eat due to my food allergies; darn you eczema, lol.
  • I am quite sociable and enjoy meeting new people whilst loving my alone time.
  • I am a nature loving person who enjoys nature walks/trips.
  • I am adventurous and willing to try new things, even for once.
  • I haven’t traveled a lot but I hope to change that soon.
  • I enjoy learning about different cultures/traditions and as such often times offer myself to voluntary work.
  • My dream is to travel the world and experience different cultures whilst learning and teaching as much as I can.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me.

Welcome to the Steem universe :)
Always happy to find a well-made introduction like this - resteemed it for some more publicity!
Greets!

Thank you for the welcome @welcoming. I am happy you enjoyed my introduction. The love is much appreciated.

Welcome to the #Steemit community! This was a great #IntroduceYourself where you shared a lot of information about yourself so we can get to know you better! You seem like a great person and I'm looking forward to reading more of your content =)

Thank you very much @mkkenny13 your feedback is much appreciated. I will indeed continue to give my best here on Steemit.

Welcome to steem and wish you many more great posts.
Keep on steemin'

Thank you very much @pouchon. I will...

Hello, Michelle, and Welcome to Steemit.

Greetings from a former reacher of ESL in Japan.

With your various interests and your passion for writing, you will find Steemit to be an ideal platform to share your stories. Not only do you have a pre-fab site with a "waiting" readership, but you can also earn Steem crypto-currency.

Below are a few basic points of advice re posting on Steemit.

  1. Longer posts are more lucrative than short posts. If you make a post of 20–30 paragraphs, it's more likely to earn rewards.
  2. Include some photos, images or graphs, to complement the text.
  3. Make sure the text and photos are formatted properly, so that your post looks attractive and appealing.
  4. Be yourself.
  5. Be interesting and informative.
  6. Create quality content. Steemit is intended to be a platform of quality content. (You will see many insignificant posts with meager content and no quality. Most of those of posts [called “shitposts” by Steemit whale Stellabelle] will earn few rewards and soon pass into oblivion.)
  7. Get online and start curating. Read various posts, comment on those posts you find interesting, and upvote those posts. That’s the best way to attract followers.

Hope this helps for now. Good luck, and Full Steem Ahead!

Konnichiwa!!! It is so nice to know that you are a former ESL who taught in Japan. If I may, are you still in Japan? Additionally, thank you so much for your welcome and for the advice. They are very much appreciated and solid for getting me started. I will do my best at all times.

No, I left Japan in 2005 (after 17 years there!). Now I'm in Thailand (semi-retired.)

Do you teach upper-level students, or only beginners and mid-level? I'm now posting my high-level Vocabulary learning resource on Steemit. If you have any high-level students, it might help you or them.

Here's a link to the recent renewed INTRODUCTION to VOCAB-ABILITY ... https://steemit.com/writing/@majes.tytyty/vocab-ability-introduction-and-guide-a-more-powerful-vocabulary-this-post-includes-the-intro-and-guide-to-the-series

Next week, I'm gonna start posting daily "Vocab-Ability1x1" posts, so that students can study and practice all the vocabulary in my resource.

One more point re Steemit in general.

Submitting photos in the various photo contests is a great way to earn a bit of Steem and to attract followers. Here are links to 3 contests.

@photocontests, organized by @juliank
Daily color challenges, organized by @colorchallenge
#tepchallenge, organized by @theexplorer

For entries into those photo contests, short posts are OK. But it's a good idea to add a bit of text explaining the photo, to give the post some meat and to make it more interesting.

Also, in a 2–3 months, I'm gonna start posting NOTES FROM UNDER THE TATAMI MATS, an 80-post series about my experiences in Japan. You may find that interesting too!

@ma.tytyty thank you for your response. You spent quite a bit of time here, 17 years, wow nice. I teach at three Senior high schools and they are of varying levels. I will definitely check out the resources that you have recommended. I would love to read about your experiences while you were here in Japan, so ill keep an eye out for the 80-post series. Thank you for all the advice and kind words.

Welcome to Steemit @honeysim! I really enjoyed your post. Clever, fun and full of energy. I found you through @freedomshift and the PayitForward contest. Congratulations on being featured. Wish you all the best and continued success here on Steemit. :)

Thank you very much @energyaddict22 for the welcome and for visiting my post. I am really happy you enjoyed it and grateful to @freedomshift for the feature. Thank you.

Hello! It's nice to see you here!

Hi there! Thank you for the welcome. I am happy to be here.

@honeysim - I have featured you on my entry to a curation contest:

https://steemit.com/payitforward/@freedomshift/my-entry-to-pay-it-forward-curation-contest-week-1-payitforward

You are my featured blogger / steemian!
All the best!

@honeysim wanted to let you know that @freedomshift featuring you in their post brought me here. Great post!

@thedarkhouse thank you very much for taking the time to view my post and getting to know me. Your visit and comment is much appreciated.

Aaaww, thank you so much @freedomshift. I am almost in tears but holding back as I would have to explain it to my co-workers, lol. I am completely humbled and honoured. Thank you so much for featuring me in your entry to a curation contest.

@honeysim - You are welcome. You have made quite a splash already. I am glad that I recognized talent when I see it. You are already a star!
All the best!

Thank you @freedomshift.

Please check out my message to you, @honeysim, in my entry to Pay It Forward Contest for this week (#4)

All the best!

Hey, ok...will do. Thank you.

Hey @honeysim,

Your introduction post is really eye-catching and you're a really interesting person! I hope I can get to know you more. I hope you'll enjoy your time teaching in Japan. I used to be an intern teacher in Fujisawa, Kanagawa and the Japanese students are really cute!!

To introduce myself, I'm a scout from Steemit Greeters Guild, @greetersguild. We are a community that wants to help newbies like you.

Your contents definitely deserve more upvotes and views, so I am offering you an opportunity. Right now, our founder @terminallyill is hosting our biggest contest, Operation Save a Newbie.

I suggest you to participate by posting your best post within 24 hours because you deserve better upvotes and views. Paste your post link in the post's comment and tag me @tifaong as your referral. Then I can support you in your endeavours.

I get rewards too when you tag me as your referral :)

I wish you all the best on Steemit!

Hi @tifaong, you are the second person I am meeting here that has taught in Japan as well. It is really heart-warming to meet persons who have taught here; it is a pleasure working with these students. Thank you for introducing the Operation Save a Newbie contest; it is a good venture for newbies. Wishing you all the best as well dear.

Hey @honeysim, really, who's the other person? I'd like to meet him/her as well. Yup, I totally agree with you. The Japanese students are great and lovely!

You're welcome, I hope you'll participate and gain the views that you deserve. You write really good, you know. Thank you :)

That person is @majes.tytyty who lived in Japan for 17 years. I will do my best. Thank you.

Hi @honeysim , I love your energetic introduction and the fact that you ask yourself, "How will I add value?"
I was also going to invite you to the contest above, but I see @tifaong beat me to it. ;)
Hope to see you there. Maybe you'll write more about your adjustment to life in Japan? I am likely to visit there in a few years. I don't speak Japanese either! (Yet).

Why, thank you @wholeself-in. I am happy you enjoyed reading my introduction. Yeah, he beat you to it but that is alright - teamwork. My writings will definitely include life in Japan. You should make that visit happen; it is a beautiful place and no worries about not speaking Japanese. I have been surviving without knowing much so you will be fine. Plus, Japan is delving further into making English apart of its daily runnings. It would still be good to study some general Japanese for the sake of introduction and greetings :-).

Your welcome to this family steemian.

Its interesting how you presented yourself here and i have learned a lot from your introduce yourself blog.
Well big thanks to the one steemian who shared this idea with you.

My initial start on this BLOG was with great confusion and minimal understanding because a little was shared about steemit but took the initiative to join and my first blog communicated wit weak effect and attention drawn to but my head is never down because we learn by doing.

Thanks to the steemit community. I believe slowly by slowly we shall grow as a child after birth does not go strait to running and improve on presentation in this community.
Steemians at heart
Be Blessed
Alioni

Hey there @alioni, thank you for the welcome. I am elated that my post was helpful to you. Yeah, I am indeed grateful to @dmilliz for introducing me to this platform. I totally know what you mean about the confusion and minimal understanding; I too felt that way. To counteract that feeling, I delved into Steemit by watching youtube videos and reading articles for beginners written by other great Steemians. I too am still in the learning process, so know that you are not alone. I believe and declare that the only way from here is UP so keep your head above the water and continue to give your best.

Be Blessed and thank you
Inspirational to me

Welcome! Here I thought Poetry was dead in 2018 (and I'm not trying to be cynical, I do have a degree in creative writing-poetry,) but I see SO many poets & fiction writers here. It's fantastic!

I actually just started a series yesterday called "7 Days to a Better Steemit Blog" that you might find helpful! https://steemit.com/steemit/@stevecronin/7-days-to-a-better-steemit-blog

Hope you have fun here!

Hi Stevecronin, thank you for the welcome. Yeah, i know exactly what you mean, lol. I had stopped writing for a little while but I am back on it again as it is something that I like doing. My friend @dmilliz who introduced me to Steemit also does some great poems. He is an inspiration indeed. Learning about Steemit has been a real motivation. I will indeed check out the series. Thank you

Hey, welcome! You seem like lovely and funny person. I hope you'll have wonderul time here and I'm looking forward to see more posts from you :)

Thank you @oceanmoonlight. I will do my best.

Welcome to Steemit.

Posts like this one, with great quality and effort are great, keep doing them!

Thank you @anomadsoul. I will continue to give of my best.

Welcome @honeysim!
Day 6 and the first post and you have already accomplished what many other steemians have not been able to accomplish!
Congratulations!

Thank you @freedomshift. I am honoured. My aim is "constancy and honesty", as was reinforced by a fellow Steemer. I enjoy writing and sharing with others and intend on being authentic.

Hello welcome to Steemit word. It' s nice to see you here. Greetings from Poland ;)

@kate5454, thank you for the welcome. Your Polish greeting is greatly appreciated.

Hello Michelle:
I loved reading your Post. I feel I know you so well already :D
I am new to Steem myself and I have been doing in-depth learning of the Steem community, and am preparing my "introducemyself" post :-)
I ran across your post while looking for good examples to follow, and it is perfect.

We have so much in common. :)

Am excited to get to know you and all Steemians better.

Cheers to a great Steemified Future :)
Yay! DeCentralization :)

Please Keep in Touch,
Amy

Hey Amy, thank you for the love. It makes me happy knowing that my post is able to assist you and act as a good example for your introduce yourself post. Welcome to Steemit and from one newbie to another, I've come to learn that there isnt any rush to post - good content is more important than having many posts. Spend the time creating a great introduce yourself post as this will be one of the most important posts you can make on your new journey (this, I have learned). I can attest to spending the time and doing my research; it is a good feeling knowing that you have put your best foot forward in the name of good content; other Steemians will definitely appreciate it. A profile picture with you holding a Steemit note is also a great part of putting your authenticity out there, so do create one. Looking forward to getting to know you too.

Yes, I agree completely :-)
This ability to build a global community of kindred spirits from my bedroom is one reason i love living in this century. :)

A await your next post with anticipation.

lol you are definitely right about being able to build such a community in the comforts of our homes. It is just amazing. Thank you my dear.

Welcome to Steemit and it's great community. You definitely have a nice writing style. I wish you lots of fun and success. Gaz

Hi @cheese4ead, thank you for the welcome and the compliment. I most definitely will enjoy my time here and continue giving my all.

Glad to meet you!

Hi @alkor, thank you for visiting. Looking forward to a great time here.

i wonder what is your secret by gaining a lot of reputation by posting 1 post

Hi @aaronhydra123, thank you. (smile) I would want to believe that it is my desire and will to share "me" with fellow steemers. Before posting I did my research and gained some insights into what Steemit is really about as well as how to properly present the "real me" to Steemit. From this, I used pieces of advice gained from fellow steemers through their helpful articles. There are many helpful articles on Steemit for beginners. The bottom-line though is that I am just being "myself". Wishing you all the best on your journey and please feel free to ask me for any assistance; I'll do my best to help as much as I can.

Welcome to Steemit. Have a good time here!
By the way: I'm in for Canon cameras. But for me it's a question of taste. I never had a Nikon cam but a friend of mine also uses Canon. Smartphone cameras are sufficient for most uses, only sunsets and dawns are sometimes photographed with incorrect coloring.

Thanks for the welcome @isarmoewe. Thank you for the advice and recommendation too. Secretly, I have always liked Canon cameras and I think that is because the photographers that I use to be around used mostly Canons so I developed a love for it. However, technology and devices are being improved so my aim is to find a good camera that will fullfill my needs. As we would say in Jamaica, "big up yuhself" (much love and respect).

Welcome to this beautiful community, apart from giving you an upvote I give you a tip that is worth more: "constancy and honesty is the best way to emerge in steemit"

Thank you very much @oneherrera. That is surely a tip that I will keep in my bosom. Based on what I have read thus far, that is indeed the best way to start and continue. I will do my best to add value and remain constant. Thank you again.

@honeysim - I don't know if this can be verified, but, I believe that you will or have already set a few records here with one post and in such a short time.
Congratulations!
All the best!

It feels so unreal but it is a great feeling indeed. Thank you much.

You (your post) have attracted many upvotes from the big fishes / whales, steemians (not steemers) with high reputation scores and high effective SP (% of SP times total SP). That is why your reputation score and value of upvotes is so high for a newbie and first post.
It would be good to acknowledge them (those who upvoted without leaving a comment) and thank them, IMHO, but properly ...
Reputation score @ 42 already. WOW!
All the best!

@freedom, yeah I realized that much, thank you :-). I certainly will. I notice however that I can only see "some" of the names for the persons who upvoted.

Very lovely intro,
I’m glad you took the time to learn the platform.
Welcome, and I know you will enjoy expressing yourself in this wonderful community!
Keep. On steemin! Bless Up

Hey @dmilliz. I am happy that I did too. It was worth the effort. Thank you for the blessing.

Great to meet you. Look forward to reading your poetry. I'm also from the Caribbean, Trinidad. I'm NISH, a Hip Hop artist, songwriter and videographer. New to Steemit. Loving it so far. Blessings.

Oh, how nice :-). It is always good meeting others from around the Caribbean. Welcome to Steemit yourself. Wishing you all the best. "Big up yuhself."

Love your big smile and your funny party girl photos here, Corn Bread Chocolate Girl. You are a lot of fun. I love poetry too hehe. Thanks for sharing. I'm Oatmeal Joey Arnold. You can call me Joey.

Awww thank you Joey. The pleasure was all mine so don't mention it. Looking forward to a good time here on Steemit.

How are you?

I am doing quite well. Thank you. Hope youre alright as well.

Hi there! It seems the comments beat me in giving you tips at least those that were taught by others here too. You living in Japan makes me interested already. I want to visit Japan someday. About photography? It's best to start with smartphone and read and learn about basics. I am not a pro but I just like taking photos. Your love for food and nature are both what I love. Looking forward to your posts about Japan's food and nature. It's okay to be a selfie girl. That's common here in our country. I used to teach Korean kids English language for a year and I enjoyed it.

Welcome to steemit!

@leeart, thank you for the warm greetings. You should definitely plan a trip to Japan; it is a beautiful place to visit. Thanks for the advice re the photography; my smartphone has been doing well thus far. Oh that is nice - teaching Koreans English. I have made a few Asian friends that include Koreans. I will certainly do my best in sharing my Japanese experiences. Thanks again.

I am keeping an eye on you lol! Not in a weird kind of stalker way haha! It's nice to know the experiences of others to give us a bit of something to look forward to if given the chance to travel. I think you are doing your best because this intro got a lot of us interested and we will be expecting future articles that will top this. Pressure is on haha! Just kidding. Just have fun in steeming and sharing.

lol Thank you @leeart. I am happy that I am able to share my thoughts and experiences with others. I will certainly do my best and will have fun while doing so.

Hello @honeysim! Welcome to steemit. A pleasure to greet. I hope you feel comfortable on this platform. A hug.
