And a public key alone proves what exactly? Nothing!
Keybase verifies your account on different platforms and also lets you verify other people. That's what makes it good - it really adds alot of cost for scammers to fake something like that.
A public key can be created in a few seconds, that's no biggie. It's about the trust network!!
