A new place for Piano Composers...

Hi Steemians!

_DSC4421.jpg
My name is Olivier and I am delighted to join the Steemit community.

Originally from Belgium I moved to Dublin, Ireland, back in 1997 and have enjoyed living here since then. So much so that I acquired Irish citizenship a while ago!

My main interests are telecommunication software engineering (my job!), photography and piano composition.
Through my reading about Steemit I have discovered #IPFS and I have to say it seems really exciting.

My photographic days...

A few years ago I used to spend a lot of my spare time hunting for the perfect light, often at crazy hours in the morning, trying to get the perfect shot.

At the time I developed my own community web site trying to gather in one place the best photographs of Ireland. It was called Irelandscape (hence my nickname).

In the future I might post a few blogs related to my photography around Ireland, Scotland and other places.

However a busy family life means that it is now difficult for me to find the time for outdoor photography.
I still get up early in the morning but now to take care of two young active children!

While landscape photography is currently on hold for me, I know I will get back to it ultimately.

This brings me to my next interest: piano composition.

The Piano: a source of freedom

I have recently resumed playing the piano after many years of putting music on hold. As a kid and teenager I went to the academy and received a classical music training. I gave up when I was 17, tired of practicing the same pieces over and over again and the stress of exams. I could play, but it was tedious and the practicing was a chore, not a source of enjoyment and freedom.

Years (decades) had passed and I recently realized that I could get back to playing. This time for my own enjoyment. Playing the piano had to be a source of freedom and expression. No more learning from music sheets. Learn by ear, chords, from others on YouTube and other sources.

What followed is that soon I realized that maybe, just maybe, I could compose something of my own. I am an engineer. I love to build. And what better thing to build than 5 minutes of emotions that you can share with others?

I recently completed my first composition which you can listen below and this has given me a real sens of accomplishment. The piece is called When We Were Young

Building a community of piano composers...

My main objective for now with steemit is to create a reference place here for all piano composers around the world under the tag #pianocomposition

I will reach out to as many composers as possible and invite them to contribute to this channel.
On our own it is very difficult to promote music these days. But together I believe that we can achieve promoting our music much more effectively and, who knows, maybe make a few bucks from it.

That's it from me.

I look forward to contribute to Steemit and meet many interesting like-minded Steemians!

All the Best,

Olivier.

@irelandscape you play beautifully. I'm also returning to the piano and deep into the ear training and chord theory. Welcome to the community!

Thanks. Sounds like we have something in common then. At some stage I will post something about my ideas about my experience with music academy.

Welcome to this great forum

Thanks!

Welcome and is very interesting to read all these things, I hope to hear you playing very soon ;)

Welcome to Steem Oliver. Your song has lots of melancholy in it, any advice for a younger guy?

Welcome on board. Another multitalent! I used to live in Irland for a year and I was amazed to see how kids "learn" music. It is live, not much cold theorizing and sheed reading, but learning tunes by heart after school with two or three instruments after school and in the evening joining in with the family in the pub for a real session. Love that country!

@irelandscape Before reading your articles on particle physics I thought steemit is a platform that was being ruined by crypto traders and wanna be crypto millionaires. Your post has basically motivated me to search for other intellectuals who are writing scientific and original content.

Thank you @haxins.
There are many interesting people on Steemit. You'll find them once you start following the right steemians.
