Hi, I'm Jamie! I'm an Award-Winning Fantasy Novelist

in introduceyourself •  8 years ago  (edited)

"From as young as I can remember, I have soothed myself to sleep by imagining epic stories of heroes, heroines, sorceresses, dragons, angels, and demons. I based my stories on the books and movies I was watching and the narratives that moved and inspired me.

I was as excited and delighted with Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre as I was with Battlestar Galactica (the original TV series). The Mists of Avalon, an Arthurian legend retelling from the point of view of the female characters, had as much effect on me as Cosmos by Carl Sagan.

I imagined myself occupying the boots of the hero as much as I occupied the glass slippers of the damsel in distress. The first one was what I wanted to be; the second was what society wanted me to be, and I believed them, for a little while..."

I've been looking for a platform that enables me to share my work with the community incrementally. I love to co-create and to receive feedback on plot and characters. I'm thrilled that Steemit provides a place where the readers can support and encourage creativity. I plan to release my latest novel— Ahe'ey — here at Steemit. If you enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, art, feminism, action and romance, you should check it out. I will post my novel using the tag aheey. I look forward to your input.

Hi Jamie, welcome to steemit!

I am interested in working with published authors who want to contribute to Steem/it. Along with @ericvancewalton, @fairytalelife, @thisisbenbrick, and others, I am participating in an effort to build a community of authors and artists in a mutually supportive and potentially collaborative atomosphere. Please join https://steemit.chat if you have time and private message me as user @steemed. I look forward to interacting with you.

Hi @steemed,
Thank you for mentioning some users that are in the steem community. I'm new and have been looking for some good folks to follow but there are no good ways of finding or verifying people. Well its still on beta (:
Perhaps we could come up with a list of some of the published authors on steemit.

Hi @steemed, thank you. I look forward to connecting with you all and I will reach out to you over the next few days. At this stage, I am trying to learn about the platform to ensure it suits my publishing requirements. I just found out that I am unable to edit some of my posts, this may become an issue as there are always some minor typos that need correcting in a novel that is 160k+ words. I'm not sure if I want to post publicly on a platform where I'm unable to edit my work. It becomes a credibility issue. I'll reach out soon once I research the subject a bit more. Look forward to connecting with you. Jamie

Please keep writing, you will get used to the platform. I believe blockchain is the future for authors like you.

Thanks lovely, I will.

Hi lifeisawesome,

Could you please post introduction with your photo holding paper with Steemit logo, your username and the date, please?
So we can verifiy your identity. Thank you.

Hi @logic. Not sure if this comment is meant for me as it tags a different user. Here is a blog post on my website and on my Goodreads page about the release of Ahe'ey in steemit.

Thank you. I'll be posting twice a week. Just for my benefit, how did you find me here? Did you follow the links from my website or social media or were you already a steemit user? And thank you for the tip. I appreciate it. x

I am pleased to welcome you in this one of a kind of social network.

Thank you @Vitalik1987

Welcome @jamielefay ^.^
I hope the community is kind to you here and you are able to share some of your work. Have a wonderful day.

Hi @echosinthemind, here is some of my work written using this particular pen name. https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/jamie-le-fay/angeel/ Have a great day!

Hello @jamielefay and welcome to Steemit!
I am so happy to see another true writer on the forum and I'm looking forward to seeing your work unfold.
I've been posting pieces of flash fiction here but finally decided that I'm going to work on the rough draft of what will probably be a novella. There isn't anything fantasy about it. Actually, it's pretty dark.

Now, could you do me a favor and write out AHE'EY phonetically? I trip over unfamiliar words and have actually put books down because I'm like a broken record over them. For example: Hermione from the first Harry Potter book. I didn't know how to say it until I saw the movie. Then I read books 2 and 3 before I went back to book 1.

Okay, maybe I'm a little nuts too. LOL Anyway! WELCOME!

Hi @merej99! Thank you for the kind welcome. I will wait enthusiastically for your dark novella. We all need a little bit of darkness sometimes. I will do better than writing Ahe'ey phonetically; I will post the audio file for part #1 within the next few days so that you can hear the names of the four tribes. Watch this space. ;) Speak soon, Jamie

Hello Jamie. I am as excited about the opportunities on Steemit for introducing new fiction. I wrote a science fiction novel a while back, a rather bad attempt but I learned how not to write a novel, and I am outlining a new sci-fi series. I am looking forward to the opportunity of writing short stories on Steemit to promote my future novels. It's all very exciting.

Hi @sincitytaostist. Thank you for the warm welcome. Ahe'ey is currently in its third iteration. I have changed the story structure several times after feedback from my editors. I'm now pretty happy with it, but it took me two years to restructure a 160k word novel. I look forward to this experiment on steemit. I'm optimistic that this can be a great platform for authors. I look forward to reading your work.

Warm welcome to you and your imagination! As we have the same taste in reading, Sagan ...and Galactica ;-)
I might follow you and read your novel . Good luck!

Thank you @catou009! I look forward to your blog. "Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere." - Carl Sagan :)

Good morning and welcome Jamie! I'm not a professional writer but I like writing political and societal articles - with some humour, and trying to find an outlet for my thoughts has been my primary reason for joining but...we'll see if Steemit is actually the best medium for posting "quality content", too early to tell! Ciao from Italia

@matteo2016 Ciao from Sydney! I believe we have an opportunity to shape Steemit to become a good medium for quality content. I'm cautiously optimistic at this stage. I look forward to your articles. We are experiencing a fascinating and scary time in the world; quality socio-political commentary is crucial right now. As the guys from Blendle point out, people will not pay for the "what", but they will pay for thoughtful, well-researched opinion pieces that help them make sense of the "How". Speak soon, Jamie

I am reading some of your freehand writing and. boy oh boy, I am impressed. It flows like a warm breeze over beach sand. I tell you a secret I am a sucker for a good writing style. Yet, It blows my mind how you have gotten there by liking Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice, which, in my mind, are the most primitive and obtuse novels in English literature. Then again I read them in translation. Maybe they are better in original and are written in a great style. Judging by your last name you have French roots. Maybe your style is indigenous to that corner of the literary universe?
Btw, I read an inscription for your novel and I don’t think it was written by you. Was it? Is so I don’t understand why it is dumb down so much? After seeing you being capable of sophisticated writing between lines and comparing it to the style and the tendentiousness, in which this inscription was written, I felt like I was looking down from Himalayan mountains to the valleys of Mesopotamia.

You are incredibly insightful and kind. I’m grateful for your encouragement and your kind words. Marketers wrote the book inscription with the goal of reaching a YA audience. It’s now obvious that it was a misguided move. I need to re-write it soon. I’m in the process of liberating myself from the expectations of others. I’m old enough to know that what works best is absolute integrity of voice.

Ahe’ey is a major re-write and restructuring of a novel that has evolved over the years. I’m a product of Jane Austen as much as I’m a product of Marvel, Tolkien or Florbela Espanca. I’m currently reading Purity by Jonathan Franzen and loving it. I’m unashamed in my devotion for geekiness, romance, heroes, villains, science and magic. I fail to understand why people need to choose a lane and stick with it. Shattering stereotypes and colouring outside the lines is an important topic for me.

Jamie Le Fay is a pen name. I am Portuguese by birth and education, which makes writing in English challenging. Writing Incognito gives me a lot of freedom. I have a seat at the table in corporate boardrooms. I prefer to keep identities separate, at least for the time being. Writers and musicians are exposed and vulnerable; the work is always a reflection of who they are. In this world I’m Jamie, but I roam other worlds; many different worlds.

Interesting. It’s ironic that the image that one must sell to their constituency imposes strict limitations on the sounding of her voice and it’s probably a Hercules's’ labor to set the score straight. There is no shame in reading whatever you like. I am rather ashamed by not being familiar with the mentioned authors. As for writing about a girl outside of marrying “Price Charming” how about Marissa Mayer? She is an attractive woman, extremely smart, a great organizer, made a fairy tale like career in a technical field, married a millionaire and now is enjoying motherhood. Wish you all the luck in your writing and well as corporate life and will be following you on steemit.

HI Jamie, welcome to steemit. Can you provide some verification of your identity? We've had a number of plagiarists lately pretending to be other people. Easiest thing to do is just edit the post with a picture of yourself holding a steemit sign.

Hi, thank you. Here is a link to my author website and a post about the upcoming release of Ahe'ey on Steemit. http://www.angeelseries.com/blog/aheey-to-be-released-on-steemit Hope it helps. Jamie

Welcome to Steemit, @jamielefay!

Hi, jamie!
My name is Vladimir.
Have a nice mood!

Thank you @steemrussia.

I remember how I started to read Jane Eyre a long time ago. Until it was discussing the life of a persecuted little girl it was interesting. Then when the novel went into a direction of a fantasy of, I guess, every not good looking girl and I couldn’t suspend the disbelief, it became boring and I stopped reading. Maybe for a lady this is different. I wonder if this novel should it be written nowadays, would actually be published?

Hi @mgaft1, consider the number of books and movies that focus on the fantasies of every not good looking boy. "Jane/Joe Doe succeeds against all odds," is a universal theme in storytelling. I hope that we can broaden the definition of happy ending for women from marriage to prince charming to another type of achievements. And yet, relationships and romance are very much part of what inspires and define us. There's nothing wrong with a great romantic story. In regards to beauty, my novel Ahe'ey is a deep exploration of the topic from the eyes of both men and women.

Thank you. I can tell you are a real writer, for you covered yourself from all the sides. As for "feel good" novels I think I will still pass on them, despite their mass appeal. Somehow I prefer novels that ends sadly, like most of stiff in real life. Good luck to you in your deep exploration of the topic though.

Hi! I like a fantasy so I hope to read sometime your novels in ukrainian too

Thank you @visitor.

Welcome, @jamielefay!

Thank you @ericvancewalton. I look forward to reading more of your work. It's great to see you doing so well on Steemit. "In my heart. I know I'm ready."

Thank you! You're going to love it here!
