Expat living in Vietnam for 13+ years

Hello STEEMIT!

It's me, Jon.

I'm a child of the 90s (born in 1980) and I stumbled across the site whilst researching numerous ICOs. The learning curve is a steep one.

In 2002 I left the UK and I haven't really looked back since. I was lucky enough to do a lot of travelling before moving to South Korea as an English teacher. I then took off to Vietnam at the start of 2005 and I have been living in Ho Chi Minh City ever since. I ran a popular blog back in the day when there were only 4 or 5 people blogging out here. It was called It's The Final Word. I started teaching ICT as a secondary school teacher. Since then I've picked up a family (married in 06, two children in 08 and 15) and three post-graduate qualifications in the field of Education.

Some of my hobbies and things I plan to blog about on STEEM are:

  • Vietnam
  • Travel in general, particularly in SE Asia
  • Cryptocurrencies and ICOs
  • Fantasy Premier League Football
  • Photography

Look forward to meeting, sharing, and chatting with peeps. Any HCMC based people here, drop a comment pls!

Welcome to Steemit Jon! I’ll be following you and looking forward to some beautiful pictures of Vietnam!

Hi Graham. Thanks for the welcome! Coming across Steemit has inspired me to blog and start shooting snaps again. I kinda lost the passion a while back, and needed a spark. This might be it.

Hi Jon and welcome to Steemit! Don't know much about Vietnam, but do know a bit about the expat life, being a Dane who has lived in many places-- most recently the USA. Enjoy your time here... it's a great platform for sharing your interests and passions... like all social sites, it takes a little while to get established and develop a following, but original interesting content does the trick, just be patient!

Hi Denmarkguy. As I mentioned above I do feel inspired for the first time in many years to curate and post some content. I know the process from my blogging days, it takes time and effort putting together a quality post but it's a labour of love! Immediately I'm not a massive fan of the GUI on the post page which makes creating dynamic posts a little more time consuming :-). Will check out your posts later today when I get home.

In many ways, Steemit is much like the social blogging sites of circa 2002-05, before MySpace and Facebook. Right down to the fact that I write many of posts in straight HTML to get them to do what I want... hopefully they'll improve that bit, one of these days.

Exactly! Got really frustrated. But then slept on it and started again. Had to go simple with the markdown editor

Jonathan - hello and warm welcome :) Looking to see a lot of nice articles from you, and of from what you wrote in your introduction, I am surely expecting them. Followed and upvoted in anticipation of more nice posts.
You must have tons of good stuff from 2002 onwards.
Peace :)

Peter.
