Where words fail, music speaks.
Hi there! My name is Arnold and this is a line I borrowed from the amazing writer, H. C. Andersen. It carries a particular importance for me, because it stuck in my mind ever since I started learning about music production. At that time, I immediately understood why the barriers of language could be overcome by the power of music. The reason is simple, yet it appears to be complicated. Words speak to us in indirect ways; we use our minds to interpret meanings and as a result we often end up misunderstanding situations completely. Music, on the other hand, bypasses the rational mind and speaks directly to a person's being. Music is pure, direct and there is little room for misinterpretation. When my friend and fellow Steemian @ruben.woellert recently explained to me the mechanics behind Steemit I remembered this line from Andersen once again. I became curious about the platform and I was determined to find out more. As I read through articles and blog posts explaining the details behind the site, I realized the great potential that lies in the Steemit community. In terms of content creation, a decentralised platform provides the biggest freedom both for creators and consumers. Moreover, the integration of services like Dsound and Dtube seem to make Steemit a great place for sharing music along with other original content. Needless to say, I was hooked!
So here I am fellow Steemians, it's great to meet you!
My life in short
As mentioned before, people call me Arnold. I currently live, study and make all kinds of art in the forgotten lands of Slovakia. Not many people could locate in on the map, but no worries, most people haven't even heard about this place before. I grew up in a bilingual environment in the southern part of the country in the small town of Dunajská Streda. Because there is a large Hungarian minority in the south, my native language became Hungarian. Regardless, my parents wanted me to receive a bilingual education and thus I ended up attending a Slovak elementary school. Additionally, my love of videogames at the time of my childhood has compelled me to become passionate about the English language too. Years passed and I learned to fluently read, speak and think in three different languages. I moved to the capital, Bratislava, and graduated from an english-slovak bilingual high school. After high school I applied to the only liberal arts college in the whole country, BISLA. For anybody wondering what it means, it is an abbreviation for Bratislava International School of Liberal Arts. In the end I got accepted, and I have just now successfully completed my third semester. There I took subjects such as sociology, political science and philosophy. I am grateful to BISLA because it enabled me to continue my education in English and it introduced me to many interesting personalities. One would be tempted to think that a vocabulary in three languages would allow any person to express every thought they have without an effort. Somehow this was not the case for me. I still found myself struggling to share my deeper feelings and emotions with my friends and partners. My mind was often cluttered with ideas, which couldn't be adequately explained with words, yet I felt that they had to be expressed somehow. But music changed everything. About six years ago, when I was still attending high school, a friend of mine introduced me to my first digital audio workstation, Ableton Live 9. I was blown away. As I spent more and more time creating grooves and melodies I felt the clutter in my mind gradually dissipating. Making music had become sort of a therapy for me. I have been dropping in and out of music classes before – first I played the piano for 4 years, then the guitar for another 3 – but I have never felt so happy and satisfied as when I was making my own tracks. It felt as though I could finally express that which cannot be said but on which it is impossible to be silent. I found my new passion – a videogame that could be played endlessly without it becoming boring. And I kept playing and stuck to music production ever since, not really settling down in any particular genre. You see, in my opinion, each style has a unique attraction about it. Whether it is the rhythmical hypnosis of techno and trance, the nasty basslines in the likes of electro and drum & bass or the simple but infectious beats of trap, hip-hop and grime – I love it all. My philosophy regarding production is the same as my attitude towards life. In the first place, I create music that has value for me. In other words, music that makes me feel something. It is a reflection of my inner state of mind. I think it is true when they say that although music is spiritual, the music industry is not. Well, it is no secret that digital music sales have been in a global decline for many years now. In my opinion, people are reluctant to spend money on digital music downloads because of two reasons. First, they have the ability to acquire the music for free using other means such as piracy. Second, people would rather pay for physical products than non-physical mp3s. From a certain angle, Steemit could provide a solution for this issue. What this platform does is that it reverses the typical consumer sequence. Instead of paying for the content upfront and then evaluating it, people can access everything freely and then decide whether it is worth their money (upvote) and how much it is worth. In other words, users do not have to invest money on the platform, yet their upvotes can still generate value for the content creators. It seems like magic to be, but I have to admit, it's a great solution nevertheless. I look forward to meeting new faces and connecting with talented creators!
Now that you have gained some insight into my life's journey, what can you expect me to share and write about?
– Original Music from my humble self
– Occasional poetry and perhaps some prose
– My opinion about life, humans & the world
– Art of various forms
– And anything else that I might find worthwhile
See you soon and have an awesome day (or night)! ;)
